Mixed Results For Blomqvist In Germany

It was a frustrating weekend for Tom Blomqvist at Norisring this weekend for the sixth round of the FIA F3 European Championship, with results dropping him to 4th place overall in the Championship.

Making a good start during qualifying and securing second row on the grid for Race One, Tom had high hopes for a positive result but this was not to be. Several race incidents hampered his progress and after contact with Verstappen, Tom was forced to pit for repairs and re-join down in 21st place. This was by no means the end of the race for Blomqvist and determined to pull back some places, he made a good recovery and manoeuvred the number 31 up the field to finish 10th.

Positive for the next race, Blomqvist qualified 3rd and gained 2nd place on the first corner. After a red flag due to weather conditions, and a restart, Tom was forced wide into the exit of turn one, pushing him into the barrier and putting an end to his second race.

There was still optimism for Race Three as Blomqvist started front row of the grid, in 2nd place. Unfortunately, luck was not on Tom’s side as early on in the race, Jake Dennis out-braked himself crashing into the side of Tom, putting him out of the third and final race.

Blomqvist talks about his first race, “I got a good start and passed Verstappen off the line, then there was a safety car on the first lap and at the restart I could have probably passed Ocon but I was maybe a bit indecisive and I didn’t really capitalise. On the second lap I was determined to pass and the gap was a bit bigger but again I think I braked a little too early. Max got up the inside of me and I ran into the back of Ocon and lost my front wing. Then at the second safety car I had to pit for a new front wing. I was at the back and I managed to get up to tenth, it could have been better but it was my mistake in the first place. I’m just frustrated with myself to be honest.”

The Championship heads to Moscow on the 11th-13th July for Round Seven and
Blomqvist will be hoping for a better result in his attempt to close down the lead to Easterban Ocon.
