2014 NHRA: Meyer, Lamb Lead Goodyear NHRA Winners At Joliet
Randy Meyer was an Allstar winner and Justin Lamb grabbed his 11th national event victory in drag racing’s early summer classic, the NHRA’s O’Reilly Auto Parts Route 66 Nationals at Route 66 Raceway. Tire choice is open to the competitors in the NHRA’s Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series for sportsman teams. Tiremakers race wheel-to-wheel in those categories.

Meyer and Lamb’s wins brought to five the total of wins by cars racing on Goodyear tires at Joliet. The other Goodyear-shod winners included Antron Brown (in Top Fuel), Matt Hagan (Funny Car) and Vincent Nobile (Pro Stock).

Meyer’s Top Alcohol Dragster win came in the Jegs Allstars competition for regional representatives from all over the NHRA map. His .019-second reaction time at the start gave him the lead and he never trailed, picking up his first Jeg’s trophy.

Lamb’s win was his 11th in a national event and the second time he has won in Stock Eliminator.

Brown edged Brittany Force in the Top Fuel final, winning by just .358 of a second, or about 17 feet. The victory was Brown’s fourth of the season, 29th in Top Fuel and 45th in an NHRA professional category. Doug Kalitta leads the Top Fuel standings with 1,001 points, the most points among NHRA professional drivers. Brown is second with 844.

Hagan’s Funny Car victory was his first of 2014. He beat Tommy Johnson Jr. in the final round with a quicker reaction time. Robert Hight continues to lead the Funny Car standings with 970 points. DeJoria moved into second place with 716.

Nobile’s final round victory over Jason Line in Pro Stock came thanks to a whisper of a reaction time, just .004 of a second. Still, Nobile’s margin of victory was a skinny .0091 of a second. The victory was Nobile’s first of the season. Erica Enders-Stevens leads the category with 972 points. Jeg Coughlin is next with 789.

Goodyear employs about 69,000 people at manufacturing plants and facilities in 22 nations. Based in Akron, Ohio, Goodyear is among the largest tiremakers in the world and is the worldwide leader in race tire innovation.
