2014 Daytona II: Trevor Bayne NASCAR Nationwide Race Preview

· In the past 19 NNS races held at Daytona, Bayne ranks first in fastest speed early in a run (186.73 mph), third in fastest speed late in a run (185.11 mph), green flag speed (185.47 mph) and in speed in traffic (185.54 mph). Bayne also ranks tied for sixth in fastest laps run with 44, according to NASCAR’s loop data statistics.

· Bayne has recorded three-consecutive NNS top-10 finishes on the restrictor-plate tracks of Daytona and Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway dating back to July 2013. Those finishes include a 10th-place finish in this event last year, a third-place finish in the season opener this year and a 10th-place finish at Talladega in May.

· Bayne will also be piloting the No. 21 Motorcraft / Quick Lane Ford Fusion for the Wood Brothers Saturday evening in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS). Bayne is a previous winner at the 2.5-mile superspeedway in the NSCS, earning his first Sprint Cup victory in the 2011 running of the Daytona 500.

The Car
· Crew chief Chad Norris brings chassis RK-835 to Daytona International Speedway this weekend. This chassis previously raced at both Daytona and Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway earning finishes of third and 10th, respectively.

Recapping Kentucky
· Bayne began the Friday night event at Kentucky Speedway from the 13th position consistently ran inside the top 15 throughout the 200-Lap race. While battling for a top-10 position late in the race, Bayne made contact with the No.9 car as well as the outside retaining wall, giving the No.6 AdvoCare Ford Mustang damage to both the left and right side. The damage from the incident ultimately led to a flat left-front tire as Bayne was coming to the checkered flag. In the end, Bayne was scored with a 15th-place finish.

QUOTE WORTHY

Bayne on racing at Daytona:
“Going to Daytona is always a special feeling for me. There’s so much history that comes with racing there and to know that my name is forever a part of that history is something that means the world to me. I love racing there. It’s an intense kind of racing that has us three, sometimes four-wide in a big pack where anything can happen. It definitely keeps you on your toes from start to finish, which is what makes this racing so exciting. I’m ready to get out there with our No.6 AdvoCare Ford Mustang and I think we have a great chance to go back to Victory Lane this weekend in Daytona.”

Crew Chief Chad Norris on Daytona:
“Everyone really steps their game up at Daytona. It’s a place that everyone wants to win at with all of the history that is there. We’re excited to be going there this weekend with Trevor. He’s very talented on these restrictor-plate tracks and knows how to work the draft and when to make a move out there on the track. That gives us a lot of confidence heading into this weekend and I know that Trevor will give our No.6 AdvoCare Ford a great race on Friday night.”
