Sebastian Saavedra Looking To Maximize Points At Pocono

Driving the No. 17 Automatic Fire Sprinklers, Inc. - KV AFS Racing Chevrolet/Dallara/Firestone car on the 2.5 mile tri-oval, Saavedra will be looking to advance in the championship standings by taking advantage of the double points on offer for this weekend's 500-mile race, the second jewel in the Verizon IndyCar Series' Triple Crown.

The 24-year-old, who is still relatively new to oval racing having spent his early career on road/street courses, will also be looking to secure his first oval career top-10 finish (best finish his 13th at Milwaukee last year) on Sunday. The "Tricky Triangle" as Pocono Raceway is often called, will be just his 19th oval event in 48 Verizon IndyCar career starts.

"After a long weekend in Houston, I am looking forward to oval racing again," said Saavedra. "I believe we have a strong platform for Pocono after watching the strong performance the team had last year with TK (Tony Kanaan) and Simona (De Silvestro). We haven't been able to test there this year, so we are a little bit dependent on the information we gathered from last year, but that should be enough for a good performance this weekend. I'm hoping to earn some important points for the championship and keeping the good vibes amongst the Automatic Fire Sprinklers - KV AFS team up."

Born in Bogotá, Colombia, Saavedra has been among the youngest drivers in nearly every series he has competed in. He joined the Firestone Indy Lights just before his 19th birthday and that year was awarded Rookie of the Year Honors with AFS Racing/Andretti Autosport. He moved to Bryan Herta Autosport for 2010 where he made his Indianapolis 500 debut becoming the third Colombian driver to do so. Saavedra then stepped up to the IndyCar Series in 2011 with Conquest Racing before returning to Indy Lights in 2012. Last year he spent the entire season back in IndyCar with Dragon Racing.

The Pocono INDYCAR 500 will be broadcast live on NBCSports at 12:00 p.m. (ET) and IMS IndyCar Radio can be heard on Sirius 213 and XM 209, check local listings for your local station, or listen at IndyCar.com or on the Verizon Indy2014 app.
