Team HRC Head To Sweden Set On More Silverware

After a break of one week in the MXGP calendar, the Motocross World Championship heads to Sweden this weekend to the Uddevalla track for the first in a Scandinavian back-to-back pairing of races.

Although it was a weekend off for the championship, like many MXGP riders Max Nagl kept himself busy and continued a remarkable comeback. Having finished second overall on his CRF450RW in Germany two weeks ago, he was racing at home again last weekend in the national series and took another podium, this time with a victory.

Buoyed by a strong return to form, Max is hoping to continue his run of success at a track at which he finished fourth overall last year during the MXGP of Sweden, including a second place in the opening race.

Evgeny Bobryshev is still sidelined after he was injured in a first-lap collision in Italy. He is due to visit Doctor Claes again this week for an update on the healing process and to get a better idea of recovery and rehabilitation time.

Honda Sweden are very active within the national motocross community and, as in past years, are holding a training day on Friday for the youth talent they support as part of Honda's commitment to nurturing the future stars of motocross. Max will stop by en-route to Uddevalla to offer advice and guidance to the aspiring racers, alongside fellow HRC rider Tim Gajser.

Sweden’s a good track that generally I like and have gone well at, but this year they’ve changed it so there’ll be some learning for everyone. My riding is coming better every week and after the good results from the last two weekends I’m feeling good. The pressure here is a little less now that in Germany at my home race, but I really want to perform the same. My plan this time will be though to use less energy in the first moto and keep more for the second race, instead of going all out to win race one in Germany. That win was something really nice though. It sunk it more when I was going home and in the week after – it’s something really cool!

Sweden is now one of the classics on the calendar. It’s a spectacular track set in spectacular scenery, typical of Sweden. It’s quite unique in that you get spectators on the hillside amongst the rocks watching the action, but from there they can see the whole track. There’s a great atmosphere there. Honda Sweden are very active around the GP and we’re very involved with them. They run a big training day on the Friday before the GP for all the Honda-supported youth riders in Sweden, so the HRC riders go there to lend their expertise and provide a little tuition. The track is basically in a quarry so there are a lot of small stones. It’s always well prepared, but it does get quite rough and it’s easier to make mistakes there. Having said that, it’s usually a good race for us and with Max’s current run of form we’re hoping for more success this weekend.
