Top of the Class: Throughout the 2014 Verizon IndyCar Series season, Briscoe and NTT DATA Racing have completed 1,078 of the 1,099 laps or 98% of the seasons’ laps.

Position to Win: Throughout Briscoe’s 10-year career in the Verizon IndyCar Series, he has scored 37 top-five finishes and 65 top-10 finishes. In the 2014 Verizon IndyCar Series season, Briscoe has finished in the top 10 five times (St. Petersburg, Grand Prix of Indianapolis, Belle Isle, Texas, Houston).

Fitness Focused: Fitness is an important part of a Verizon IndyCar Series driver’s preparation for each race, and Briscoe takes this aspect of his job very seriously. Briscoe has become a firm believer in the cross-fit culture that has taken over the fitness world. He began his cross-fit regiment in the garage of a friend a few years ago and has stuck with him as his practice has grown. When Briscoe is in the Indianapolis area, he attends PitFit Training for driver-focused fitness workouts and when he is on the road he follows his own cross-fit workout plan.

Wild Ride: Briscoe was signed to CGRT in 2005 as a full-time driver, but after a season-ending incident at Chicagoland Speedway his Indy car racing career took a step back. Since his 2005 debut season he has raced with multiple teams, including a four-season stint with Penske Racing. Throughout his Verizon IndyCar Series career, Briscoe has collected seven wins, 13 pole positions and has led 1,430 laps. The 2014 season is his first full-time season since 2012.

In The Offseason: While he became one of the newest additions to the CGRT family, Briscoe added a new member to his own family in the off season. He and his wife, ESPN broadcaster Nicole Briscoe, welcomed daughter Finley into the world in December.

Finding New Roads: All four CGRT Indy cars are utilizing the Chevrolet 2.2-liter twin turbocharged V6 engine for 2014 season. The engine produces well over 600 horsepower and close to 300 lb. ft. of torque.

Ryan Briscoe and No. 8 NTT DATA Chevrolet

Pocono History: Until the 2013 Verizon IndyCar Series race at Pocono Raceway, the Pennsylvania track had not seen any open-wheel action since 1989. The 2014 Verizon IndyCar Series Pocono INDYCAR 500 will be the 21st Indy car race to take place at Pocono Raceway.

Last Time at Pocono Raceway: In the first open-wheel INDYCAR race at the Tricky Triangle in 2013, Briscoe joined the field in the National Guard entry for Panther Racing. He qualified in the 19th position and ultimately crossed the finish line in the 14th position.

Going Around in Circles: Of his 13 pole positions, seven of those have been on an oval (Chicagoland 2008, Milwaukee 2009, Chicagoland 2009, Kansas 2010, Texas 2010, Chicagoland 2010, Indianapolis 2012) and of his seven wins, four of those have been on an oval (Milwaukee 2008, Kentucky 2009, Chicagoland 2009, Texas 2010).

Race Rewind – Reliant Park: Race 1 – Briscoe and the No. 8 NTT DATA Chevrolet started the second standing start race of the season in the first race of the Shell and Pennzoil Grand Prix of Houston in the 15th position. The race was originally slated for 90 laps, but due to weather and track conditions the race was shortened to one hour and 50 minutes. At green flag, Briscoe quickly moved up a position to 14th and made his first scheduled pit stop on lap 27 for fuel and tires. The field saw the first full-course yellow of the race on lap 29 and the No. 8 was 14th on the restart on lap 33. Another full-course yellow came out on lap 37 and Briscoe had moved up to the 11th position on the restart on lap 42. NTT DATA Chip Ganassi Racing brought the No. 8 in for the second scheduled pit stop on lap 53 and by lap 61 Briscoe had moved up to the eighth position. The No. 8 eventually made its way to sixth, where it would cross the finish line. The Verizon IndyCar Series issued Briscoe and the No. 8 NTT DATA Chevrolet a 30-second penalty post-race for avoidable contact with the No. 17 car. The penalty moved Briscoe back to 12th where he would officially finish the race.

Race 2 – In an identical qualifying result, Briscoe started the second race of the Shell and Pennzoil Grand Prix of Houston in the 15th position. Within six laps of the second race’s green flag, Briscoe had moved up three spots to the 12th position and would make his first pit stop of the day on lap 20. 14 laps after the first pit stop, the No. 8 pitted again on lap 34 for fuel and tires. On lap 41, a full course yellow came out and Briscoe was 13th on the restart on lap 47. Another quick full-course yellow occurred on lap 49 and Briscoe was 10th on the restart. The No. 8 pitted for the last scheduled stop on lap 62 for fuel and tires and moved up to the eighth spot by lap 72. On the next lap, Briscoe encountered a flat spot on one of his tires which forced him to make an unplanned stop for new tires. The unexpected stop cost the team a few positions, but Briscoe and NTT DATA Chip Ganassi Racing battled back to gain back those positions and cross the finish line in eighth.

Briscoe, on the Pocono INDYCAR 500: “It’s been a really quick turnaround coming from the doubleheader in Houston last weekend straight into the Pocono INDYCAR 500 this weekend, but I couldn’t be more excited to get back into the car. We’re coming off another top-10 finish at Houston and all of NTT DATA Chip Ganassi Racing is anxious to see the No. 8 NTT DATA Chevrolet place even higher at Pocono.”
