500 Miles And No Fourth Turn As Justin Wilson Is Ready For Pocono 500

After last weekend’s double duel on the streets of Houston, Justin Wilson returns to oval action in the No. 19 Boy Scouts of America Dale Coyne Racing Honda/Dallara this holiday weekend as the Verizon IndyCar Series returns to Pennsylvania for the Pocono 500 (broadcast: 12:00 PM ET, Sunday July 6 on NBCSN) at the 2.5-mile Pocono Raceway tri-oval.

The visit is the second in recent history to the track for the IndyCar runners, which have to contend with an oval layout that features three signature turns, with each bend an homage to other circuits. Turn One is based on the long-lost Trenton Speedway, Turn Two is reminiscent of the nine degrees of banking on the fabled four at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and six degrees of banking in the final Turn Three is similar to the Milwaukee Mile.

2013 marked the return of IndyCar action at the Pennsylvania circuit, and the weekend was a banner event for the Honda IndyCar squads as the HPD-powered machines monopolized the podium, with Wilson coming home seventh in the order.

"I like the track, it’s a fun place for us to race," said Wilson. "We tested there recently so hopefully we can turn that into having a good place to start the weekend. Turn one has some banking to it, so that can play a role with how the tires hold up depending on what the set up is like. It can put a lot of load on the tire and if there is an imbalance, that can accelerate any degradation. I like the challenge of it, with three very different corners. And of course, the straights are long enough that you’ve got a bit of time to think about it! It would be great to build on what we did there last year and come home with a good result."

The 500 mile race features a two day format, with qualifying setting the grid on Saturday at 5:00 PM ET and the race set to go green at 1:00 PM ET on Sunday.
