And although it's a different event at a different track, that success has the Rocky Boots team filled with confidence for Sunday's NHRA Mello Yello series eliminations, which begin at 11 a.m. (ET).

The team led by crew chief Dickie Venables qualified fourth with an elapsed time of 4.044 seconds at 318 mph for Sunday's eliminations, their best qualifying effort in the past four events, dating to Topeka in May.

"Not only did we have a great qualifying effort, what makes me have confidence for tomorrow is the fact that we did so well in the heat in Chicago," Matt said of last weekend's race. "This weekend during qualifying it's just been about making stellar runs because the conditions are so good but we won't see any of these conditions on Sunday.

"The car seems to be running well in these cool conditions but it's also running really well in the heat. I'm excited about tomorrow, I'm pumped up."

The Rocky Boots team clocked four runs between 4.04 and 4.15 seconds in qualifying. All four sessions were in early evening and night conditions with temperatures in the low 70s, but the forecast for Sunday is a high of 81.

The highlight of the Fourth of July weekend so far was when Matt entertained several guests from sponsor Rocky Boots, which is has its headquarters in southern Ohio at Nelsonville.

"We had a big group out here," he said. "I'm glad they all came out. There's a lot of stuff going on for the Fourth of July weekend and for them to spend their time with us this weekend is huge.

"I'm just tickled to death that they got to come out and watch this Rocky Boots Dodge Charger R/T put a couple of good numbers up on the board. I enjoyed having them out and I hope they enjoyed it too.

"Hopefully we can make it two in a row and get all those folks in the winner's circle with us on Sunday."
