Jimmy Weller Wins At Sharon Speedway

Jimmy Weller drove to victory lane at Sharon Speedway on Saturday night after securing the win in the big block dirt modified division at the Hartford, Ohio track. Weller, who is completing a limited schedule in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series this season, led every lap in both his heat race and the feature en route to his dominating victory in the No. 23 Liberty Steel Products / TFI Transportation / Hughes Construction modified.

"Tonight's win at Sharon Speedway really means a lot to me," commented Weller. "This track means so much to my family; we have spent so many weekends racing here and we have so much history at this track. It's been a long time since I've been in victory lane at Sharon, but we have so many friends and family members who work on these cars and support our racing, I can't think of a better place to celebrate a win with them than at Sharon Speedway. With Liberty Steel Products, TFI Transportation, Hughes Construction, Hines Race Engines and Troyer Race Cars all backing our effort--I'm so thankful that we were able to get them a win. This year has been so much fun for me with racing in both the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and back home at Sharon Speedway; I thank God every day because I really am living the dream."

Maximizing their time on track, the big block dirt modified division does not receive any practice time at Sharon Speedway. Instead, their heat races are set by a random draw, and the competitors immediately start racing when they pull on track every Saturday night. Starting in the second position for his heat race, Weller took the lead on the first turn of the first lap. From there, the Hubbard, Ohio native drove away from the field while trying a few different lines to prepare for the feature race. By winning his heat, Weller secured the pole position for the 20-lap feature race. Setting a quick pace in the feature, Weller continued to lead the field throughout all 20 laps en route to the checkered flag.

"This win just shows you how strong our team is," Weller continued. "We got in an accident last weekend and I had to be in North Carolina this week, so it was primarily my team making the repairs and putting in the time to get the car ready. They did a great job and gave me exactly the car I needed to go out tonight and win the race. We had great power from our Hines Racing Engine and a great car from Troyer Race Cars. It's cool to win here because I'm not only racing against a lot of our friends, but I'm also racing against my dad--he's always one of the cars to beat here."

Weller started his racing career when he was just 15 years old while racing in the big block dirt modified division at Sharon Speedway. Growing up, Weller's interest in racing spurred from his father, Jim Weller, who Jimmy continues to race against each week at Sharon Speedway. Saturday night's race marked the younger Weller's first feature win at Sharon Speedway in nearly 10 years. His last win at the track came in 2004 while racing a 410 Sprint Car.
