2014 Daytona II (Coke Zero 400): NASCAR Sprint Cup Race Results - Almirola, Ford Win!

By PaddockTalk.com Staff Writers

Aric Almirola and his No. 43 United States Air Force Ford won the rain delayed 56th Annual Coke Zero 400 , his first victory in 125 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races. This is his first victory and fourth top-10 finish in 2014. This is also his first victory and first top-10 finish in seven races at Daytona International Speedway.

Almirola is the 43rd driver to drive the famed No. 43 car in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. Prior to today's win, the last time the No. 43 car visited Victory Lane at Daytona was 7/4/1984 with NASCAR Hall of Famer Richard Petty behind the wheel. The last time the No. 43 car won in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series was at Martinsville Speedway (4/18/1999) with driver John Andretti. This is the No. 43 car's 199th win (second-most all-time) in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. This is also the No. 43 car's 11th points-paying win at Daytona among two drivers - Richard Petty (10 wins) and Aric Almirola (1 win).

For Ford, it was the manufacturer's third straight win.

Finishing second, Brian Vickers and his No. 55 Aaron's/FSU National Championship Toyota posted his fourth top-10 finish in 16 races at Daytona International Speedway. It is his sixth top-10 finish in 2014.

In third, Kurt Busch and his No. 41 Haas Automation Chevrolet posted his 14th top-10 finish in 28 races at Daytona International Speedway.

Casey Mears and his No. 13 GEICO Chevrolet would finish fourth.

Austin Dillon and his No. 3 Bass Pro Shops/NRA Museum Chevrolet was the highest finishing rookie, he was fifth.

Jeff Gordon leads the NASCAR Sprint Cup point standings by 27 points over Dale Earnhardt Jr.
