2014 Pocono 500: IndyCar Race Results - Montoya, Chevrolet Win!

By Mike Sulka

In front of 40,000, Team Penske IndyCar driver Juan Pablo Montoya and his No. 2 Chevrolet has won the Pocono IndyCar 500 at Pocono Raceway in Long Pond, Pennsylvania. For Montoya, it is his first win of the 2014 IndyCar season, and second in his IndyCar career. Both Montoya wins were 500 mile events (Indianapolis 500 in 2000). Montoya also has 12 major open-wheel wins racing in North American series and seven Formula One F1 career wins.

The average speed of the race was the third fastest ever at 202.402 mph. It was the first 500 mile event to average over 200 mph.

Grabbing second was Helio Castroneves and his No. 3 Team Penske Chevrolet. For the Brazilian, it is his 5th IndyCar podium of the year, and 70th in his career. Castroneves has 80 career podiums in major open-wheel competition.

Carlos Munoz and his No. 34 Honda would finish third to pick up his third podium of the season, and fourth of his IndyCar career.

Ryan Briscoe and his No. 8 Chevrolet would grab fourth with Scott Dixon and his No. 9 rounding out the top five.

Will Power and his No. 12 was penalized for blocking his teammate (Castroneves), and would finish his race in 10th. The final result would mean the pair are now tied for the 2014 IndyCar driver's championship point lead. Simon Pagenaud is third - 44 points back, and Montoya has moved up to 4th in the standings (55 points back).

Next up for the IndyCar series will be the Iowa next weekend.
