First 2014 Podium for Yelloly

Yelloly topped the practice session on Friday as the Status Grand Prix ace set the best lap time with a 1:47.504 to finish ahead of the ART Grand Prix duo of Dino Zamparelli and Marvin Kirchhöfer.

Saturday saw a wet qualifying and Yelloly start 7th on the grid for race 1, although slightly disappointed with his grid position he was able to move up to 5th on the first lap. The 23-year-old was able to keep his place for the rest of the race ahead of Agostini after several laps under pressure during mid part of the 15 lap race.

Many fans waited in the threatening rain for Yelloly’s last race of the weekend, as race 2 took place this Sunday morning. With Richie Stanaway making a good start, he took advantage of pole man Zamparelli poor get away and led from start to finish but it was Englishman Yelloly behind in third that made the over taking pass of the race in a clinical move on the outside of Emil Bernstorff into the Brooklands corner to move into second place on the third lap. After 15 laps Yelloly celebrated by making it his first time on the podium for 2014. Only 2.7 seconds separated Nick and his teammate Richie Stanaway making a Status team one two.

Nick Yelloly says on his win and the race weekend at Silverstone, “We have struggled a lot more at the start of the season than we thought we would so it’s nice to get that monkey off our back. A 1-2 for Status is great too – after we have shown a lot of pace and to have the two experienced guys at the front and for Alfonso Celis. Jr finish in the top ten in his rookie year is great. Alfonso was super quick in qualifying too so for the team it’s mega. It’s always nice to do it at home in front of family and friends and sponsors. Now onwards and upwards to Hockenheim where I think we can do even better and improve further. We can try and get the 1-2 in Race 1.”

Nick Yelloly moves into the top six of the GP3 championship and will be racing from the 19th july at German Grand Prix at the Hockenheim circuit.
