On The Heels Of Winchester Sunday, Venturini Tests The Same 'Fabulous 4' At Lucas Oil Raceway Monday

Venturini Motorsports made good use of its proximity to last Sunday's ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards race at Winchester Speedway, testing four drivers at Lucas Oil Raceway (LOR) in Brownsburg, Ind. Monday.

Coming off a solid day at Winchester where team drivers Justin Boston, JJ Haley, Cody Coughlin and John Wes Townley earned top-10 finishes, the same combination of drivers assembled at LOR the very next day for an afternoon/evening test session in preparation for the SCOTT Get Geared Up 200 presented by Federated Car Care coming Friday night, July 25.

Boston, who finished third at Winchester, saw LOR for the first time Monday, and liked every bit of it.
"We've been testing for about two hours, and we're going to test right into the evening to get a feel for what the track will be like when we come back to race," Boston said.

The team scheduled the test for late afternoon/early evening to coincide with the start-time of the race, which does not get the green flag until shortly after 9:00 p.m.

"I'm really excited to race here; we've got our Toledo car here, so that makes it even better."

Boston, 24, was referring to the car that he won the Menards 200 with at Toledo Speedway back in mid-May.

"For me, this racetrack requires a lot of discipline. You've really got to be patient, spending time out of the gas, and waiting to get back in at just the right time. It plays right into my style."

All wins are big, but winning in Indianapolis on the same-weekend as the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway arguably ratchets up the desire.

"It would be so cool to win in Indy; there's a lot of focus on our race...a lot of people watching. If you're going to win one, this is the right place."

Unlike his aforementioned teammates. Boston has never raced at LOR, but feels he learned enough to be a factor when he comes back.

"I've already learned a ton about this place. It's definitely a momentum track. Whoever's going fastest through the center of the corner...whoever's rotating the best through the corner will win this race.

Rotating through the corner is important everywhere, but the way the car drifts up off the bottom groove here...you've got to rotate through it to get off the corner right.

"I'm really excited; I wish the race was tomorrow."

Haley, who just turned 15 in late April, also tested. Ironically, he had already competed on the track in street stocks and sportsman late models despite his youth.

"I've never really had a good run here to be honest...so I'm ready to fix that," Haley said.

"We've been really close all day. We just did a mock run and it went very well. We've just been throwing different tire pressures and wedge adjustments at it. We've been a little free off the corners, so we're just trying to get that fixed up.

"Our plan is to test pretty late, so we can get as close to race times as possible."

Haley finished sixth Sunday at Winchester.

Venturini Motorsports teammates Coughlin and Townley, who finished seventh and eighth respectively at Winchester, also tested at LOR.

The SCOTT Get Geared Up 200 is part of an all stock car double header at LOR, which also features the ARCA CRA Super Series 100 late model race right before the ARCA race.

ARCA history at LOR reaches back decades; Allison, Stott, Schacht, Dillon, former ARCA Winners
Two-time ARCA Racing Series champion Ramo Stott won the inaugural ARCA race at Lucas Oil Raceway in 1971. Ralph Latham followed as victor in 1972, and Bruce Gould was victorious in 1974. Nearly 10 years would go by before ARCA would return in 1983 when two-time Series champ Marvin Smith was the race winner. Bob Schacht won at LOR in 1984. In 1985, a pair of ARCA races was on Lucas Oil's schedule, with Schacht and Davey Allison claiming victories. It would be 26 years before the ARCA tour would return to Lucas Oil Raceway in 2011 when Ty Dillon, driving for Richard Childress Racing, won the 200-lap event. Frank Kimmel is the most recent winner at LOR in 2012.

Raceday Schedule/Media Coverage
ARCA Racing Series Menards Pole Qualifying presented by Ansell begins at 5:30 p.m. with the ARCA CRA Super Series 100-lap race following at 7. The SCOTT Get Geared Up 200 is scheduled for a 9 p.m. start, and is live on FOX Sports 1. ARCAracing.com will feature live timing and scoring of all ARCA Racing Series on-track activities, starting with the first of two practice sessions at 1:35. All times listed are Eastern.
