Team HRC Looking For A Lucky Number Thirteen In Finland

The MXGP of Finland, round thirteen of the championship, is held at the Hyvinkaa track 60km north of Helsinki, and marks the second in a back-to-back pairing of races in the Scandic region.

Finland returned to the calendar in 2013 after a lengthy lay-off and the deep sand should suit both the Honda CRF450RW and Max Nagl’s riding style on the No.12 machine.

Three days ago Nagl rode to third place in the second race in Sweden, meaning from the last three weekends since his return he’s finished second overall at the MXGP of Germany including taking a race win, taken the overall victory in the ADAC MX Masters, and most recently the third in Sweden.

Evgeny Bobryshev continues his recovery from the incident in which he received a broken leg in Italy. Currently rest is the order of the day so he’s at home in Belgium, but after returning to see his doctor last week he can now start to use crutches rather than being bound to a wheelchair. He has been given a timeframe of six weeks to be back on the bike again.

With its advantageous viewing spots and a clear forecast predicted, the Hyvinkaa track looks set to host a thrilling weekend of motocross racing.

Max Nagl No.12
I like Finland and I like riding in sand. It’s quite rough this track, but the young kids are riding on the junior bikes this weekend so maybe they will do some more work on the track this year to keep it smoother because otherwise it will be impossible with 65cc! Generally I like this track though and I think it fits good with us and the bike. Between Sweden and Finland I cannot train five days full gas to improve my physical fitness after the injury because then you are tired for Finland. It’s difficult to improve physically when you are still racing because of this, but I’m still going to try to improve the level in small steps.

Roger Harvey HRC General Manager - MXGP
Finland is a classic sand track which returned to the calendar last year, and the riders liked it. The condition should be quite good, but it will become rough as all sand tracks do. This week Max is in Belgium training on sand. With experience it’s easy to switch to sand technique. You get the sand specialists, and the Belgians and Dutch are very good on sand because that’s what they grew up riding, but the gap you used to have to the specialists doesn’t really exist any more so it can be open to anyone. Max can ride will in sand, so with two good starts on Sunday we should be looking pretty good.
