Shannon Mcintosh, In ARCA Debut, Opts For Rock 'Em, Sock 'Em Short Track Birthday Bash At Lucas Oil Raceway

For Shannon McIntosh, there's nothing quite like a good old-fashioned ARCA short-track rock 'em, sock 'em birthday bash at Lucas Oil Raceway (LOR).

McIntosh, who turns 25 the day before the SCOTT Get Geared Up 200 presented by Federated Car Care at LOR, will celebrate the occasion trading paint with the stars and cars of the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards Friday night, July 25, marking her series debut.

Her ARCA opportunity will come aboard one of three Cunningham Motorsports Dodges entered for the big show.

"This is a huge opportunity. To have Kerry Scherer and Briggs Cunningham (Cunningham Motorsports co-owners) believe in me enough to provide this opportunity...it's hard to put into words how grateful I am," McIntosh said. "That's number one.

"Secondly, this is a fulltime thing for me. I'm all in; this is everything to me. I've been working fulltime on the marketing and sponsorship side of things to keep my career on track. I do all of it myself, so I'm constantly on the phone and emailing trying to make things happen. We have some exciting news we're going to be sharing, so this is all good.. When I got the call from Kerry, I was so surprised."

McIntosh, originally from Miamisburg, Ohio, now makes her home in St. Petersburg, Fla.; however, she'd like to relocate closer to the action.

"I really want to get back to Charlotte (N.C.) to be in that atmosphere...around all the people who know and understand racing.

"In the meantime, I've got my full focus on my ARCA debut at Lucas Oil Raceway. I've been in the gym training every day...working on marketing and sponsorship with my full focus on ARCA."

Outside of her one-race shot with Cunningham Motorsports, she's doing all she can to run ARCA fulltime in 2015.

"Right now, I want to get in as many races as I can, but we all know that plans can fall apart, so you have to keep working hard to make it happen. I'd love to get a full (ARCA) season in next year. My goal is to get to NASCAR, but I also know that's a step-by-step process. I just need to keep moving up through the ranks."

While the ARCA race at LOR marks her series debut, she fortunately has some racing experience at LOR.

"I'm so excited; it worked out good because I've raced there before...in the U.S. F2000 Series and I tested a midget there with Bob East back in 2010."

McIntosh has also tested with Cunningham Motorsports at Daytona, Motor Mile Speedway and Mobile.
"Having been able to test with Cunningham gave me a good idea of what to expect."

Despite the opportunity to test, McIntosh knows she'll have a lot to learn.

"The thing for me will be learning how to adapt to the car as it changes throughout the race. Managing tires will be another learning curve I'll be dealing with on these heavier cars. I haven't done any live pit stops either, so that's something I'm going to want to run through so I know what I'm in for there."

Fortunately, McIntosh will have some very experienced people working with her at LOR, including Paul Andrews, a former NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion crew chief.

"Paul Andrews will be my crew chief and Kevin Hamlin, who spots for Kasey Kahne, will be spotting for me...all great assets. I'll have the experience of Cunningham Motorsports, and I'll be leaning on everyone there to learn as much as I can. Tom (Hessert) and Austin (Wayne Self) have already provided me with a lot of help. They've been awesome to work with."

Hessert and Self currently race fulltime in ARCA under the Cunningham Motorsports banner.
McIntosh also has a realistic view on what to expect coming out of LOR.

"Of course, I want to go and win the race...blow everyone away, but I have to be realistic. I need to focus on myself and soak up as much as I can. If we can come out with a top-10 finish and a clean racecar, that would be a really good day for us."

A 100-lap ARCA CRA Super Series race will kick of the big night of stock car racing, culminating with the ARCA Racing Series SCOTT Get Geared Up 200 presented by Federated Car Care under the lights.
NASCAR/ARCA veteran Ken Schrader, 10-time ARCA Racing Series champion Frank Kimmel, ARCA point leader Grant Enfinger and red-hot Mason Mitchell highlight the ARCA Racing Series entries while NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver David Ragan is entered in the ARCA CRA Super Series event.

ARCA history at LOR reaches back decades; Allison, Stott, Schacht, Dillon, former ARCA Winners
Two-time ARCA Racing Series champion Ramo Stott won the inaugural ARCA race at Lucas Oil Raceway in 1971. Ralph Latham followed as victor in 1972, and Bruce Gould was victorious in 1974. Nearly 10 years would go by before ARCA would return in 1983 when two-time Series champ Marvin Smith was the race winner. Bob Schacht won at LOR in 1984. In 1985, a pair of ARCA races was on Lucas Oil's schedule, with Schacht and Davey Allison claiming victories. It would be 26 years before the ARCA tour would return to Lucas Oil Raceway in 2011 when Ty Dillon, driving for Richard Childress Racing, won the 200-lap event. Frank Kimmel is the most recent winner at LOR in 2012.

Raceday Schedule/Media Coverage
