Burton Racing Bound for Canada

For the seventh round of the IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge, Burton Racing heads north of the border to Canadian Tire Motorsport Park to compete in the Mobil 1 SportsCar Grand Prix Presented by Hawk Performance.

The Burton Racing BMW 128i machines will make the trip north fresh from strong performances at Watkins Glen, where they both navigated cleanly through the high-traffic pack to bring home two solid results at the checkered flag.

Mike LaMarra and Terry Borcheller again share the No. 23 BMW Automotive Chemicals/Excelda BMW 128i for the 2.5-hour race, while Connor Bloum and Greg Strelzoff pair up in the No. 22 Gold Eagle BMW 128.

A packed racing schedule and unfortunate racing incidents through the first stretch of the 2014 championship saw the team working to create momentum in the early rounds for both the No. 23 and the No. 22 cars, but the brother BMW 128i machines turned the page at Watkins Glen as the No. 23 ran all the way from the very back of the field to a top-10 result, with the No. 22 not far behind.

The team now looks to build on that forward momentum as they head north to the fast 2.459-mile circuit in Bowmanville, Ontario. The venue is a new one on the 2014 IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge schedule and the high-speed, 10-turn circuit is new to many drivers in the series, including three of the four Burton drivers.

The one exception being Borcheller, who will surely look to help his Burton Racing teammates as he arrives with loads of experience and plenty of positive results including seven podium finishes in American Le Mans Series competition with three pole positions to boot.

β€œIt was good to have some progress and come out of the weekend with some more positive results like we were able to at the Glen,” said Team Manager Keith Burton. β€œI am extremely proud of the whole crew and how hard they worked and all of the drivers and how they performed at Watkins Glen. We want to be fighting at the front, and are just focused on doing what we need to execute and put ourselves in that position, which is our goal on Saturday. Canadian Tire Motorsport Park is a really fast track and we are hoping it suits these BMW 128s. We are just now at the halfway point of the season and we are still very much in the championship hunt, so we are just going to keep our heads down and keep pushing.”

The team will have just two short 45-minute practice sessions ahead of qualifying to tune their brother Burton BMW machines. The Mobil 1 SportsCar Grand Prix Presented by Hawk Performance is set to go green on July 12th at 1:15 PM (ET) and will be broadcast on FOX Sports 1 on July 20th at 10:00 AM (ET).
