King Takes Front Row Start In Moscow

Carlin’s Jordan King will start from the front row of the grid in the first ever FIA Formula 3 European Championship race to be held in Russia. The British racer qualified second at the Moscow Raceway earlier today, while his team mate Jake Dennis will start from sixth after a strong qualifying performance from the F3 rookie.

Both King and Dennis were on the pace from the outset today, with both Carlin cars in the top six in the first free practice session, King setting the fourth fastest time and Dennis sixth. After a very short break the drivers were back out on track for a second practice session with the Carlin duo once again fourth and sixth fastest.

King was on a mission once qualifying got underway, briefly going into provisional pole position as the time started to tumble. At the flag, King had dropped to second, while Dennis was sixth.

Speaking about qualifying, King said, “It’s better to qualify on the front row than fight your way through the field which has been the case a couple of times this year! I came here in Formula Renault 2.0 in 2012, which I think maybe helped a little bit obviously the Formula 3 car is very different.

“We were pretty strong in practice with the fourth fastest time so I was aiming for top five qualifying spot and obviously we did a bit better than that. To be honest I’d rather be closer to pole position time wise but it’s still good to be on the front row. The aim now is get past Ocon at the start. We’re in a good position for the race”

Team mate Dennis added, “I’m quite satisfied with sixth place. There maybe could have been potential for more but it’s possible to have a good race from sixth. We’ve made a lot of progress over the last few races so we’ll aim to continue moving in the same direction this weekend.”

The racing action will kick off with race one tomorrow at 13.10. Qualifying for rounds two and three will take place at 17.40
