Luca Ghiotto Faces Tough Luck After Promising Start At The Nurburgring

The first race for Luca Ghiotto at the Nurburgring ended up in an unlucky fashion. In the sixth round of the World Series Renault 3.5, the 19-year-old racer from Italy managed to catch up with the frontrunners early, taming some tricky weather conditions. Despite some early fogs didn't bring the loss of track-time, the asphalt became quite slippery and Luca performed well.

In qualifying, Ghiotto cruised to a good top-10 position as he ended up with the 9th fastest lap, and continued the day in a positive fashion by climbing up to 6th place at the start. Unfortunately, a spin on lap 7 pulled him out of contention. In Qualifying 2 and Race 2 he'll have good chances for a prompt and well-deserved rebound.

Luca Ghiotto - Q1: P9 - R1: DNF
"My start has been very good and I managed to get away with a sixth place after qualifying in 9th. Everything seemed set for a positive run but on lap 7 the rear of my car snapped and I couldn't save it. It's a pity because the pace was clearly there. I hope to have my say at the front on Sunday".
