Simeon Closes In On Top Times. Best Qualifying Of The Season For Baldassarri

Xavier Siméon will line up his Suter on the fourth row of the grid of tomorrow's Grand Prix of Germany: the Belgian rider qualified today with the 11th fastest time in 1’25”484, 0.723 seconds from the pole position, grabbed by Dominique Aegerter.

Aboard the Team Federal Oil Gresini Moto2 Suter machine, Siméon thus closed the gap by his rivals compared to the free practice sessions and he’s preparing for tomorrow's race, scheduled on 29 laps, aware of being able to keep a good pace.

Aboard the Team Gresini Moto2 Suter, rookie Lorenzo Baldassarri placed himself immediately behind Siméon, in twelfth place with a time of 1’25”512: the 17-year-old Italian rider set his best time on the last of 27 laps covered during Qualifying, all with the same tyre. This is Baldassarri’s best qualifying performance of the year, which significantly improves the 20th position obtained in the last Spanish Grand Prix Qualifying at Jerez.

XAVIER SIMEON (11th - 1'25"484)
“I'm not satisfied, but not too disappointed, because this morning we were struggling more. With this kind of tyre the grip level is always very low and this doesn’t fit my riding style. However, in Qualifying I pushed hard and managed to reduce the gap from the other riders. Normally, we expect to improve our lap times in the final stages of the qualifications putting a new tyre; these tyres, instead, are better when they have already covered several laps and this is a bit frustrating. For this reason we made the whole session on the same tyre, and in the end we were not able to improve further. Tomorrow there are 29 laps to do and I think that with this tyres we could have an advantage in the latter part of the race, but we must stay calm in the early stages”.

LORENZO BALDASSARRI (12th - 1'25"512)
“I'm glad that I got my best Qualifying of the season! It was an important goal that we set ourselves before coming here and we succeed. Ahead of the final part of the Qualifying we made a change on the bike that helped me to better manage the throttle and to ride smoother: I felt good and I took advantage of the opportunity, scoring my best time on the last lap, with the same tyre that I have been using since the beginning of the session. My pace for the race is good, so I’m confident ahead of tomorrow”.

“Siméon is not so far from the other riders, but honestly we were expecting something more; unfortunately Xavier in the final stage of the Qualifying session failed to improve and is continuing to struggle to put the tyres in the right temperature and thus to exploit the potential of his bike. We have been looking for a solution for this issue since quite a lot of time, so we hope to overcome it soon. His race pace is good however, but starting back on the grid complicates things, of course. I am very happy for Baldassarri, who made a wonderful lap right in the end with used tyres; a further proof that he’s on a steep learning curve”.
