Close Call For Meyrick At Mosport

Andy Meyrick’s return to The DeltaWing Racing Cars team for the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship at the Mobil 1 SportsCar Grand Prix at the Canadian Tire Motorsports Park, was short lived following a fire inside the cockpit on Friday afternoon’s second practice session.

The 28 year old's weekend looked to be getting off to a strong start as he posted the 6th fastest time in Friday’s morning session. At the wheel of the prototype again for second practice, Andy was looking to post another quick time when a fuel line rupture triggered a fire inside the cockpit and engine area. The intensity of the fire meant Andy was taken to the on-site medical centre but was later released with just minor burns to his face.

Sustaining too much damage to be repaired on-site, the DeltaWing coupe was forced to withdraw from any further participation.

“It’s really disappointing not to be racing here being so quick in practice on Friday,” said Andy. “Unfortunately the fire damaged the car too much for the team to repair it and get it back out on track.

“I was extremely lucky to walk away with only a few minor burns and a couple of blisters really. I want to say a big thank you to all the marshals and medical staff at the circuit as well as the team and everybody who sent messages. I’m absolutely fine and will be looking forward to getting back in the car again soon.”
