Points For Dennis, Heartbreak For King

Jake Dennis has clinched a strong haul of points following the conclusion of the final race of the FIA Formula Three European Championship weekend in Russia. The Carlin driver maintained position off the line and after two Safety Car restarts clinched fourth position as he crossed the line. Team Mate Jordan King was unfortunate to suffer contact with Lucas Auer – this damaged his suspension and left him sadly stranded on the side of the track and pushed out of a points paying position.

The third and final race of the weekend once again got underway with glorious weather shining over the Moscow Raceway. As the lights went out both King and Dennis enjoyed a good launch and maintained their starting positions of fifth and sixth respectively. However a first lap incident would soon neutralise the racing when following contact Felix Serralles was left stranded on the track; this brought out the safety car out while the circuit was cleared and safe to race.

At the restart it was business as usual for the Carlin duo who used the next few laps to build a gap to those behind. However things were set to change soon after when a barrage of drive through penalties, including one for Tom Blomqvist in the sister Jagonya Ayam with Carlin car, elevated both King and Dennis to fourth and fifth respectively.

Over the next few laps it was a relatively processional affair for the drivers as they made their way around the Moscow Raceway. Unfortunately events were set to change dramatically for King when he lost position to Lucas Auer. Attempting to take his position back King found himself trapped on the inside of the corner with Auer next to him and nowhere to go. The pair collided which took them both out of the race.

This drama for King had a knock on effect and in the melee Dennis had already moved up to fourth position. One final Safety Car came out as a result giving the field just one final racing lap to complete. The Racing Steps Foundation driver enjoyed a solid race from start to finish to clinch points for fourth position overall.

Dennis said, ‘It was a pretty solid race for us – we’ve been there or thereabouts most of the weekend and have picked up some good points as a result. It’s been a little difficult to overtake and gain positions here but we thought that would be the case. However I think we can be happy overall with our pace and with today’s result. Now, we look ahead to the next round in Austria with the aim to continue picking up points for the Championship.’
