2014 Toronto: KVSH Racing & KV AFS Racing IndyCar Race Preview

KVSH Racing driver Sebastien Bourdais heads to Toronto optimistic about his chances in the Honda Indy Toronto doubleheader. Bourdais is coming off a strong, but disappointing race in Iowa. He qualified an oval season-high sixth and was running in 11th place, when he was forced to retire with an undiagnosed electrical problem. Bourdais is 12th in the championship standings with 282 points.

"This is a very important race for the KVSH Racing team because our sponsor, Hydroxycut, has its headquarters just outside of Toronto in Oakville, so we are expecting a lot of support at the track. Over the years I have had some very exciting races in Toronto and had some good results. It is always a great event. The city really supports the race, the track is challenging and the fans are knowledgeable. The Hydroxycut - KVSH Racing car has been fast on most of the street circuits this year and with two races this weekend hopefully we can have a couple of good results for the sponsors, their employees and guests and make up some ground in the championship standings."

• The 2014 Honda Indy Toronto will be Bourdais' 126th and 127th Verizon IndyCar Series starts, 13th and 14th with KVSH Racing and 10th and 11th on the streets of Toronto (five in Champ Car).
• In nine previous starts in Toronto, Bourdais has finished in the top-10 eight times including five top-five finishes with one victory(2004). He has been on pole three times (2004, 2005 and 2007).
• In 125 career Verizon IndyCar Series starts, Bourdais has won 31 races placing him eighth on the all-time list and earned 31 pole positions, seventh all-time.
• Bourdais is contesting his ninth Verizon IndyCar Series season (Champ Car, 5: IndyCar, 4).
• Bourdais is the only driver to win four consecutive championships, taking the Champ Car World Series title in 2004 - 2007.
• Bourdais contested 27 Formula One races (2008-2009)
• Bourdais, 35, is a native of Le Mans, France but resides in St. Petersburg, Florida.

KV AFS Racing's Sebastian Saavedra was having the drive of his career, moving up 14 places to find himself in third at Iowa last weekend. However all his hard work soon turned to disappointment when he lightly touched the wall. Following a pit stop to repair the damage to the right rear, Saavedra returned to the race, but six laps down and finished 17th. He sits 21st in the championship standings with 209 points.

"I am hoping to bring the positive vibes that we built from last weekend to Toronto. It wasn't the result we wanted but we had a great car and showed that we can run with the leaders just unlucky with how it ended. Toronto is a place I really like and the team and I have both had success in the past. It's a track that I enjoy running a lot but it's going to be very physical and with it being another double header weekend, I am preparing myself pretty strongly. I'm looking forward to a positive weekend and putting the KV AFS Racing car back upfront again."

• Saavedra is in his fifth Verizon IndyCar Series season.
• The 2014 Honda Indy Toronto will be Saavedra's 51st and 52nd Verizon IndyCar Series start, 32nd and 34th on a road/street course, 13th and 14th with KV AFS and seventh and eighth on the streets of Toronto (ran three times in Indy Lights).
• Saavedra won the Indy Lights race from pole in 2009 and was also runner-up in 2012.
• In 50 career Verizon IndyCar Series starts, Saavedra has earned three top-10 finishes with a best finish of eighth last year.
• In 31 previous road/street course starts, Saavedra has a career best finish of eighth at Baltimore in 2013. His best qualifying was at the inaugural Grand Prix of Indianapolis this year where he earned his first IndyCar career pole.
• Saavedra has an oval career best finish of 13th at Milwaukee last year.
• Saavedra, 24, is a native of Bogota, Columbia. He currently resides in Indianapolis, Indiana.
