Goodyear, NASCAR West at State Line

To be a winner, you have to beat the best and that is what rookie James Bickford did on his way to winning the NAPA Auto Parts/Toyota 150 NASCAR K&N Pro Series West at State Line Speedway.

Bickford passed former series champion and current points leader Greg Pursley with four laps remaining to lead for the first time and then stretched his advantage over Pursley to .725 of a second at the finish.

Bickford and the remainder of the cars in the field raced on Goodyear bias-ply racing tires. Goodyear is the exclusive tire supplier for the K&N Pro Series West and East, as well as the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series. All three circuits use the same line of Goodyear Eagles.

Brandon McReynolds took third, followed by Braeden Havens and David Mayhew.

Bickford was running fourth on Lap 134 when Pursley and Mayhew got together and collected Bickford's teammate, Lupton, who was leading the race. Pursley assumed the lead, while Mayhew blended back in seventh and Lupton ninth. Three laps after the race's final restart, Bickford made his winning move.

The winner averaged 48.736 mph for the 150-lap chase around the tight quarter-mile State Line circuit. There were only three caution flags thrown during the event and there were five lead changes. Havens started on the pole after posting a 65.198 mph lap during time trials.

Bickford, 16, is a cousin of four-time NASCAR Sprint Cup champion Jeff Gordon.

Pursley’s 301 points lead the standings. Lupton has 274.

Goodyear employs about 69,000 people at manufacturing plants and facilities in 22 nations. Based in Akron, Ohio, Goodyear is among the largest tiremakers in the world and is the worldwide leader in race tire innovation.
