Huff To Live The Dream In Classic Weekend At Silverstone

Rob Huff will ‘live the dream’ while piloting an array of historic racecars in an unforgettable weekend of motorsport at the Silverstone Classic, which proudly holds the title as the ‘World’s Biggest Motor Racing Festival’ (25-27 July).

The annual Silverstone Classic has established itself as a glittering highlight in the motorsport calendar.

The three-day festival prides itself in showcasing a full spectrum of motorsport history and once again promises unprecedented numbers of race entries, world record commemorative parades, classic car displays and spectacular music concerts, all culminating with 24 fiercely fought races on the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit.

‘Huffy’ is no stranger to the historic racing scene, having competed in a magnificent array of historic racing machinery since the very beginning of his career in some of the world’s biggest and most prestigious motorsport events, such as the Goodwood Revival, Historic Masters Festival and Silverstone Classic.

A LADA Sport LUKOIL works driver in the FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC), Huff has forged a solid reputation for versatility through a wide-ranging extracurricular programme of racing in many of the world’s most renowned endurance and historic racing contests.

After impressing behind the wheel of a plucky Austin Mini Cooper S in the 2013 Silverstone Classic, the Newmarket-domiciled racer has so far turned his hand to driving a prototype in the 24 Hours of Daytona, an Audi R8 LMS in the Bathurst 12 Hours and an Audi TTRS Special in the 25 Hours of Thunderhill and the Nurburgring 24 Hours between his WTCC commitments.

Versatility will be key for Huff in this year’s ‘Classic’. He returns for another crack at Sir John Whitmore Trophy for Under two-litre Touring Cars in Des Smail’s Mini Cooper S, but will also pilot two other British icons in the form of a Lotus Cortina and a stunning Austin Healey, plus a 2000 Ford Mondeo from the final year of the British Touring Car Championship’s (BTCC) spectacular Super Touring era.

“I’m so looking forward to getting my hands on these incredible cars at the Silverstone Classic and I reckon this could end up being one of the best weekends of 2014,” said Huff. “It will be challenging flitting between four very different cars, but I’ve spent my entire career adapting and have been able to jump from one car to the next seamlessly. I’m sure I’ll get my head around it after a couple of laps in each car and, if nothing else, it’s going to be a lot of fun! I have a lot of experience in the Mini and that’s always fun to drive, the Lotus Cortina will be completely new to me and I’ll share the Austin Healey with David Grace who’s a very handy peddler from my old WTCC team, RML.

“However, I’m looking forward to racing the 2000 Super Touring Ford Mondeo the most as it’s a car I grew up watching when my interest in the BTCC was at its height – it has a lot of personal significance and remains my most favourite touring car of all time, so it’s a true honour to have this opportunity. It’s probably the ultimate Super Tourer, as it was ahead of its time in terms of engineering and took Prodrive to the title in 2000. I like to think we can win with it; I’ll certainly give it a good go! Talk about living the dream!”
