The Merzouga Rally becomes more and more international and this year among the riders that will take the start of the fifth edition on the 18th of October, there will be representatives also from Belgium thanks to Alexandre Stroobants, his brother Tanguy and Jean-Louis Blanpain.

For the Belgian Rally Team this will be their first participation to the Merzouga Rally, but all the three guys are well experienced in African rallies, enduros and off-road motorcycles.

Alexandre Stroobants

“This Merzouga Rally will be the 1st official rally experience for my brother and me” comments Alexandre Stroobants, “so we expect to discover the ambience of the rally raid but we don’t have any goal regarding the result. We join the Merzouga Rally to have fun and see another aspect of riding in Africa. We are passionate of rallies and of course we follow the big one’s, the Dakar Rally, on TV.

“We started motorcycle around the age of 6 in our garden with our 1st Italjet 50cc. A few years later we changed to another Italjet 50cc. When we were able to ride bigger motorcycles, we began with enduro in Belgium at age of 18. We have always been off-road passionate and we made a lot of different races on very kind of motorcycles: from the HONDA XR600, HONDA CR250, Kawasaki KDX200, … and since more than 15 years, we are riding KTM’s”.

The Belgian Team

“We have a large experience of enduro since 25 years. We ride a lot in France (Auvergne, Dordogne, Aveyron,) during private runs and trips but also a lot of classical enduro races like : Val de Lorraine Classic, Grappe de Cyrano, Transardennaise, Trèfle Lozérien… Since 2005, we started to ride in north Africa, in Tunisia and Morocco".

Jean-Luis Blanpain

The third rider of the Belgian Team is Jean-Louis Blanpain. With 2 Dakar Rallies in his racing Career, Jean-Louis is an expert rider with a great preparation: he was at the start of the Dakar Rally in Africa in 2005 and and had to retire due to a mechanical problem and then, almost 10 years later, in 2014 he was back on the Dakar but in South America. In between he took part to several other Rallys such as the Pharaon, Morocco Rally and Raid des Amitié. For Blanpain too this will be the first participation to the Merzouga Rally promoted by the Italian Edo Mossi.
