ARCA's 2014 Bill France Four Crown Championship Heads To Chicagoland
From Daytona to the dirt, from road courses to Chicagoland Speedway, the diversity of the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards is, in part, what sets the 62-year-old tour apart from the rest.
And for 30-plus years, ARCA's Bill France Four Crown award annually recognizes the tour's versatile schedule.
The Ansell ActivArmr 150 at Chicagoland Saturday, July 19 will mark the second leg of this year's Bill France Four Crown, an annual honor that reaches back to 1984 when Davey Allison became the inaugural recipient.
The Four Crown schedule provides a link to the series' roots, featuring a diverse combination of tracks in any given season. This year's schedule includes New Jersey Motorsports Park (road course), Chicagoland (superspeedway), Berlin Raceway (short track), and the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds (mile dirt), where the Four Crown will conclude September 1.
"The Bill France Four Crown Award speaks to the very nature of the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards," said Ron Drager, President of ARCA. "Being the full-bodied stock car series that runs on speedways, road courses, short tracks, and dirt ovals, this is the epitome of what our series is about."
Four Crown points are allocated without qualifying or in-race bonuses, and distributed in the same method as in the official series standings.
All-time ARCA winner Frank Kimmel, who won at Chicagoland in 2003, is the all-time Bill France Four Crown champion with seven titles (2013, 2008, 2007, 2005, 2002, 2001, 1998).
Allison won the first Bill France Four Crown championship in his rookie season. Twenty-five years later another rookie, Parker Kligerman, would earn the honor driving for Cunningham Motorsports in 2009.
Quebec's Andrew Ranger Leads Bill France Four Crown points to Chicagoland
Roxton Pond, Quebec's Andrew Ranger and his car owner Robert Torriere currently lead the 2014 Bill France Four Crown standings following their win at New Jersey back in early June. Ranger has one ARCA start at Chicagoland, finishing fifth in 2011. In just seven ARCA starts altogether, Ranger has won four times - all at New Jersey where he's won four in a row. Ranger also finished fifth on the DuQuoin mile-dirt in 2011.
The Ansell ActivArmr 150, live on FOX Sports 2 at 5:00 p.m. central, will precede the same-night NASCAR Nationwide Series EnjoyIllinois.com 300.
