2014 NHRA: Determination Is On Arana's Mind For Denver

Following a successful race weekend in Norwalk, sophomore Pro Stock Motorcycle rider Adam Arana is ready to continue his success when he returns to Denver for the Mopar Mile-High NHRA Nationals, July 18-20, at Bandimere Speedway.

After racing to his first career No. 1 qualifying position and a second-round appearance in final eliminations at last year's Denver event, the ProtectTheHarvest.com/MAVTV Buell rider seems to be dialed in for a repeat.

"I just want to go back to Denver and qualify well," Arana said. "Hopefully, I'll get No. 1 again like I did last year. Either way, a good qualifying spot really makes a difference on how Sunday plays out. The higher up the ladder you are, the better chance you have at going rounds.

"Last year I was in a good position to go far, but I got too excited at the line in round two and red lit. This year I've really tried to overcome that and I'll be ready this time."

A semifinal appearance two weeks ago in Norwalk, Ohio, has the youngest Arana reeling to get back to the track and try to capture his first professional win. Denver was prosperous in Arana's first trip, but paired with his recent success, that first win may be closer than earlier imagined.

"All season I have been mentally prepared no matter what I have been faced with. My plan is to maintain that same confidence this weekend even though things are finally looking up for our team.

"We showed in Norwalk that our bikes are competitive enough to run at the top. Better yet, typically if my bike is running well, we do well as a team."

Qualifying for the Mopar Mile-High NHRA Nationals will be held at 4:45 and 7:15 p.m. MDT, Friday, and at 3:15 and 5:45 p.m., Saturday. Final eliminations begin at noon, Sunday. ESPN2 will broadcast all qualifying and elimination action, including live coverage of the final two rounds.
