A concept of the next LADA FIA WTCC challenger, based on the LADA Vesta, will be unveiled at the Moscow International Motor Show (27 August-7 September). The Vesta is an all-new B-class sedan and a replacement for the Priora, it is scheduled to go into production in September next year.

AVTOVAZ is in the process of conducting production preparations and has begun building the initial Vesta prototypes, which will be based on a new LADA B platform and the first serial embodiment of the Russian manufacturer’s new design direction, having inherited DNA from the LADA XRAY concept car, unveiled at the 2012 Moscow Motor Show. LADA Sport’s engineers believe the size and dimensions of the Vesta are ideal for building a competitive WTCC racer, the development of which is already underway.

LADA President Bo Andersson commented: “Racing is the right approach for LADA. We have a lot of fans and people who support this programme, so the company’s involvement in motorsport is important and we need to win. The visitors of the Moscow Motor Show will have a chance to see the new LADA Vesta race car that has been designed for competing in the FIA WTCC.”

In Short...

The 61st Macau Grand Prix that includes the final two rounds of the FIA World Touring Car Championship was launched last Tuesday during a crowded press conference at Macau’s Fisherman’s Wharf.

The Suncity Group was announced as the title sponsor for the event’s main races: the Formula 3 Macau Grand Prix, the Macau Motorcycle Grand Prix and the FIA WTCC season finale.

Engineer João Manuel Costa Antunes, Coordinator of the Macau GP Committee stated: “The WTCC, the most prestigious ‘tin top’ series in the world returns to Macau in November for a tenth time with what will no doubt be another dramatic finale to the championship.”

As a consequence of the recent changes to the WTCC event format, the usual Thursday test session will be brought forward from early afternoon to early morning, while the first Free Practice session will be held on Thursday afternoon (November 13) instead of Friday morning. Friday (November 14) WTCC competitors will hit the track for the second Free Practice (morning) and the Qualifying session (afternoon). Saturday will be a day off as usual for them – whilst the track will host the F3 qualifying race and the Motorcycle Grand Prix.

WTCC action will resume on Sunday (November 16) with two back-to-back ten-lap races.

LADA Sport Lukoil's driver Mikhail Kozlovskiy took third place in a Legends Race of the Volkswagen Scirocco Cup at the Moscow Raceway.

A bunch of sport superstars took part in the race at the wheel of the natural gas-powered 285bhp VW cars, including ex-Formula 1 drivers Mika Salo, Jan Lammers and Nicola Larini, double Le Mans winner Manuel Reuter, 1978 FIA World Rally Cup winner Markku Alén, 2002 Olympic champion in Teams’ ski jumping Sven Hannawald and former Liverpool and Real Madrid goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek.

Kozlovskiy posted the second fastest lap in qualifying and during the race he fought for victory with poleman Lammers and Larini. The trio made a gap from the pack and delivered a great and tough battle. Eventually Larini (a former WTCC star) and Lammers elbowed their way ahead of the young Russian who had to settle in third.

Rob Huff will ‘live the dream’ while piloting an array of historic racecars in an unforgettable weekend of motorsport at the Silverstone Classic, on 25-27 July.

‘Huffy’ is no stranger to the historic racing scene, having competed in a magnificent array of historic racing machinery since the very beginning of his career in some of the world’s biggest and most prestigious motorsport events, such as the Goodwood Revival, Historic Masters Festival and Silverstone Classic.

At the Silverstone Classic, Huff will return for another crack at Sir John Whitmore Trophy for Under two-litre Touring Cars in Des Smail’s Mini Cooper S, but will also pilot two other British icons in the form of a Lotus Cortina and a stunning Austin Healey, plus a Ford Mondeo from the final year of the British Touring Car Championship’s spectacular Super Touring era.

“I’m so looking forward to getting my hands on these incredible cars at the Silverstone Classic,” said Huff. “It will be challenging flitting between four very different cars, but I’ve spent my entire career adapting and have been able to jump from one car to the next seamlessly. I’m sure it’s going to be a lot of fun. I’m looking forward to racing the Prodrive-designed Super Touring Ford Mondeo, which I regard as my most favourite touring car of all time.”
