DeGrand Dominating Canadian F1600 Competition

At the mid-point of the Canadian Formula 1600 competition calendar, eighteen year old Tristan DeGrand from Eureka, MO has a near perfect first half under his belt. The Exclusive Autosport driver has captured six consecutive wins (in six races) in the Toyo Tires F1600 Championship Series, five consecutive wins and one second place (in six races) in the Toyo Tires Formula Tour 1600 Championship Pro Class, and four wins (in four races) in the Canadian F1600 Super Series. As the leader of all three championships in Canada, DeGrand is looking to continue his dominance in F1600 competition heading into this weekend’s contest at the Honda Indy Toronto.

The F1600 field has not competed at the Honda Indy Toronto in numerous years. Jason Sharpe of Move Motorsports has done an exceptional job getting the event back for 1600 competition and promoting the race that will feature an astounding 28 car grid, filled with the top young pilots from throughout North America. DeGrand’s appearance at the Honda Indy Toronto this weekend will be his first crack at the 11-turn, 2.824 km street course. Having not raced on the streets of Toronto before, DeGrand will use his experience from 2013 where he competed with Exclusive Autosport on the street circuit at the prestigious GP3R grand prix where he found the podium in both races. DeGrand and the F1600 grid will make their way on track for their first practice of the weekend early Friday morning. He will finish the day off with a 30 minute qualifying session which will set up the double header weekend with races happening Saturday and Sunday.

“ The first half of the season shows exactly what the Exclusive Autosport team is capable of. The combination of everyone's effort on the team is why we have been so successful. I'm really proud of the team and their desire to be on top (as much as I want to be). We approach each weekend with the same mentality. We have a system and a process and in my opinion there is no reason why we shouldn’t be winning as many races as we have. It is my job to go out on track and perform to the best of my ability because I know that the crew has worked hard to give me great equipment - a car that is deserving of wins. The remainder of the season will be tough but we are up for any challenge we face.”

Michael Duncalfe, Exclusive Autosport Team Owner

“Tristan has had an incredible first half of the 2014 season. He had a standout rookie F1600 campaign last year and has continued to build on that success. One of his strengths is his race craft. Having competed at the highest levels in karts, Tristan’s ability in high pressure situations is second to none. Tristan is the complete package as a driver. He is a natural leader on and off the track and his personality is infectious. We are proud of Tristan’s work ethic and his accomplishments so far this year. In terms of this weekend in Toronto, track time will be the biggest challenge for Tristan and the field. Very few of the drivers entered this weekend have had a chance to race on the streets of Toronto including Tristan. With only one practice before qualifying, they will have to come up to speed quickly. Tristan’s success at GP3R in 2013 will come in handy for him this weekend. For Exclusive Autosport, this is the first time all year that we will be running all five of our Spectrum Honda F1600’s. We are excited to see the fleet of Spectrum’s and our drivers in action.”
