"We had a tough time during the DC event, so it feels good to get back in the car for Volkswagen Rallycross NY. We were fastest in this morning's practice session and we were able to take the top spot in qualifying. I was trying to find some space to pass Ken (Block) in the first heat, but there just wasn't enough room. Same thing happened in the final heat round of the day when I was pushing Tanner, but it just wasn't working out. Looking forward to coming out here again tomorrow, hopefully we'll get the No. 77 7UP Volkswagen up in front."

Tanner Foust, No. 34 Rockstar Energy Drink Volkswagen Polo

• The two-time Global Rallycross champion walked away with the win in today's final heat round
• Foust and Speed captured a one-two finish for the Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross team during day one at Volkswagen Rallycross NY

" A lot of fans came out for day one in New York, which was awesome to see. The Northeast has a pretty big rally following, so I think we get a lot of bleed over from the rally fans that hit the New Hampshire, Maine and the Pennsylvania races coming out this weekend to see rallycross and so far the comments have been great, they all seem to really love the sport. It shows well for the sport of rallycross and for Global Rallycross. The two Andretti Volkswagen's are doing really well so far. Scott qualified first and then in the last heat of the night I was able to walk away with the win. The track at the Coliseum is very rough for a parking lot and very abrasive, so tire management is key. Even for a six lap race, the tires are falling off for the last three laps. I think as we get to the final, whoever saves their tires till the end will have the fastest most capable chance of winning, so I'm stoked for tomorrow's turnout."
