2014 German GP: Formula One F1 Race Results - Rosberg, Mercedes Win!

By Mike Sulka

In mostly dry conditions, Mercedes Formula One F1 driver Nico Rosberg picked up an easy victory at the 2014 German Grand Prix at the Hockenheimring Circuit. For Rosberg, it it his fourth win of the 2014 season and 7th career Formula One F1 victory - 19th career podium. It was also Rosberg's first win at the German Grand Prix. Rosberg extended his lead in the 2014 Formula One F1 world drivers points championship to 14 points.

For Mercedes, it was the team's ninth victory of the year in 10 tries. The victory marked the team's 21st all-time as a constructor. Mercedes has nearly doubled the next closest team in 2014 Formula One F1 constructors points.

Picking up his third career podium - and third straight - was Valtteri Bottas and his No. 77 Williams. For Williams, it was the team's third podium of the year. In the constructors fight, Williams was able to overtake Ferrari for third - up by 5 points.

Finishing third was Lewis Hamilton and his No. 44 who claimed his eighth podium of the year, and 62nd of his career. The result ties him with David Coulthard for 8th on the all-time F1 podium list. Hamilton made a great start moving up from P20 to P2 in sixteen laps. Along the way he made two spectacular passes, the best being a double-pass of Kimi Raikkonen (Ferrari) and Daniel Ricciardo (Red Bull).

Four-time Formula One F1 world champion Sebastian Vettel and his No. 1 Red Bull was fourth with Fernando Alonso and his No. 14 putting on a set of fresh tyres to get past Daniel Ricciardo (Red Bull) in a thrilling battle over the final 10 laps to round out the top five finishers.

Felipe Massa and his No. 19 Williams started third and never made it past Turn One after an incident with Kevin Magnussen and his No. 20 McLaren sent the Brazilian rolling into the gravel. The accident led to a Safety Car session for one lap while safety crews cleared the debris. Race Stewards reviewed the contact and determined it to be a racing incident. Massa exited the cockpit under his own power ans walked away.

On lap 47, Daniel Kvyat and his No. 26 Toro Rosso pulled off track in flames. Kvyat was able to get out safely, but put on a spectacular show doing it.

Next up, the Formula One F1 series will race at the 2014 Hungarian Grand Prix next weekend.
