Starting from the 6th row after some problems in qualifying, Stéphane Richelmi makes a good start and he begin his recovery during all 38 laps available, with big battles on the track. In the race with the mandatory pit stop, the strategy decided with the team is essential and the DAMS driver stops immediately to the pits to try to recover positions later. Choice that has paid off until the last few laps, when the tire degradation has made very difficult his race. Richelmi arrives however at the finish line in 10th position.

On Sunday morning, Hockenheim welcomes the GP2 drivers with a bit of rain that wets partially the circuit and makes difficult the tire choice between slick and rain. Richelmi, who started in the 5th row, in the first corner he is flanked by Quaife Hobbs that pushes him towards Cecotto, who touches the DAMS breaking the suspension and the drive shaft and then causing the oil leak and a fire. Richelmi gets out of the car unharmed but he was forced to retire.

The next meeting will be in Budapest on 26-27 July.
