Global Rallycross Race Report - Volkswagen Rallycross NY

Scott Speed, No. 77 7UP Volkswagen Polo

• Speed raced to a second place finish - Following a post-race review, the Global Rallycross Series disqualified the No. 77 machine for an infraction during the first red flag of race
• The reigning champion from the Dirt Track at Charlotte Motor Speedway hopes to reclaim his victory in the fifth round of the Global Rallycross season next weekend

"Obviously it was a 'not to plan' weekend for the No. 77 7UP Volkswagen. We were the fastest car all weekend during practice and heat sessions and then we just had some engine problems with our starts. We stalled on the start during this morning's semifinal round and we didn't get that fixed until it was too late. Unfortunately we didn't have a good race overall, but we managed to pass a few cars and I'm sure we got some good onboard video footage of that, which will be cool to watch! The Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross team did an incredible job, the car definitely took a beating out there as we were pushing through the field, so I cannot thank them enough for their hard work. On to the next one in Charlotte, looking forward to my home race, so we'll see what happens!"

Tanner Foust, No. 34 Rockstar Energy Drink Volkswagen Polo

• Foust captures his first win of the 2014 Global Rallycross season
• The Colorado native led each of his heat rounds and semifinals rounds this weekend at Volkswagen Rallycross NY

" Ultimately it was a great end to a long weekend. This was basically a two corner track with a very long right hander and one short left hand corner. The two guys with the most road racing and oval experience certainly were the ones to beat with Scott Speed and Nelson Piquet Jr. Luckily it's still rallycross, so the start still matters and the battling still matters, so I was able to get the nose of the No. 34 Rockstar Energy Drink Volkswagen in there off the line. Fundamentally, this was a track where the Andretti Autosport crew showed up with the right cars and that is a big part of our success this weekend. On to Charlotte where it is mostly dirt, so everything we worked on in New York will go out the window and we'll see how the Yokohama slick tires do on the new surface. It's a good win at Volkswagen Rallycross NY and it extends our lead in the overall championship."
