Global Rallycross

In Uniondale in the US state of New York, on the circuit covering just over 751 metres that was constructed specially for the event, the two-time Global Rallycross Champion initially asserted himself against his team-mate Scott Speed (USA). The apparent one-two victory for the Volkswagen brand didn't last long, however, since Speed was disqualified after the race for ignoring a flag. This meant second place went to Nelson Piquet Junior (BR), son of the three-time Formula 1 World Champion Nelson Piquet, while Ken Block (USA) moved up into third place. In the overall standings Speed is in second place with 149 points, behind Piquet Junior (184). Steve Arpin (CDN) is in third with 140 points.

Neste Oil Rally Helsinki Battle 2014
Ogier and Latvala take on the rally legends

Just less than a week before the Rally Finland gets underway (31/07–03/08), the current World Champion Sébastien Ogier (F) and his team-mate Jari-Matti Latvala (FIN) will take part in the Neste Oil Rally Helsinki Battle and go head to head with former champions. In addition to the Volkswagen drivers, four-time World Champions Tommi Mäkinen and Juha Kankkunen, two-time WRC Champion Marcus Grönholm and Markku Alén (all FIN) will take part in the showcase event to be held on a 1.65-kilometre circuit in Helsinki on July 26. “These are the drivers I looked up to as a child,” said Ogier. “They are the reason that I wanted to become a rally driver. To start alongside them is really special.” The remaining starting field at the Helsinki Battle is made up of the current WRC drivers Mads Østberg (N), Mikko Hirvonen (FIN), Thierry Neuville (B) and Juho Hänninen (FIN).

Volkswagen Polo Cup Russia
Bogomolov wins the fifth race

Arkady Bogomolov and co-driver Oleg Zimin (RUS/RUS) won the fifth race of the Volkswagen Polo Cup Russia, which was held as part of the Russian rally cup Rostov Velikiy. At the event with six special stages covering a total of 81 kilometres, the Russian duo benefited from Alexey Igatov's (RUS) retirement, who was in the lead when he came off the track and was unable to finish the race. Second place went to Andrey Vavilin (RUS), while Roman Katunin (RUS) took third place. The seventh race of the Volkswagen Polo Cup Russia will be held on 8 and 9 August at the Rally Wyborg between Saint Petersburg and the Finnish border.
