2014 NHRA: Brenda Grubbs Leads Goodyear’s 5 Winners At Bandimere

It was a case of the right place, right time and right tire.

Brenda Grubbs won her first national event victory in National Hot Rod Association competition when she won the finals of the Stock Eliminator category in the MOPAR Mile High Nationals at Bandimere Speedway.

Grubbs was one of five Goodyear-equipped drivers to win at Bandimere. The others were J.R. Todd (in Top Fuel), Robert Hight (Funny Car), Allen Johnson (Pro Stock) and James Kunkel (Super Gas).

Grubbs beat Scott Burton in an all-Goodyear final in Stock. It was just her second appearance in a national final round.

Kunkel has been there and done that. His win in Colorado was his sixth in a national event and his second national title in Super Gas. His reaction time, quick as a thought at just .009 of a second, was the key to his victory.

Todd picked up his first win of the season and the seventh of his career by beating Brittany Force in the final round. Doug Kalitta leads the Top Fuel standings with 1,162 points and Antron Brown is next with 1,137. Both have earned berths in the NHRA’s Countdown to the Championship, drag racing’s post season playoffs.

Hight beat John Force in the Funny Car finals. Hight scored his fifth victory of the season and became the first Funny Car driver to win a berth in the Countdown. Hight has 1,172 points. John Force is next with 998.

Johnson’s victory over Jeg Coughlin in Pro Stock was his third straight at the track and his fourth victory this season. Erica Enders-Stevens leads the Pro Stock points and has clinched a berth in the Countdown. Enders-Stevens leads all NHRA professional drivers in points earned this season with 1,229. Johnson is next in Pro Stock with 1,045. Enders-Stevens announced at Bandimere that her team will skip the next two events to prepare for the Countdown races.

Goodyear employs about 69,000 people at manufacturing plants and facilities in 22 nations. Based in Akron, Ohio, Goodyear is among the largest tiremakers in the world and is the worldwide leader in race tire innovation.
