Podium for McKenzie and JMW team at Red Bull Ring, Austria

This weekend saw Daniel McKenzie at the Red Bull Ring for the 3rd round of the European Le Mans Series. McKenzie and his team mates took part in the 4-hour endurance race, finishing 9th overall but 3rd in their category, making a clean sweep for Ferrari as it took the first three spots in the LMGTE class .

Both qualifying and the Race took place on Sunday. Despite a few clouds on the opening laps, conditions were dry with track temperatures very hot making it a challenge for both drivers and cars.. . Qualifying saw the team place 4th on the grid in the LMGTE class and with no major problems to report the car was in good order to start the race.

The heat continued to build and the afternoon saw the start to the race in conditions that would have everyone thinking about tyre conservation with such high track temperatures. McKenzie put a very solid stint in behind the wheel of the 458 Ferrari and contributed to a good first sector of the race, despite struggling against the immense speed of the Aston Martin Vantage of Gulf Racing during the opening hours. Teammate Richardson took over for the middle sector and a team decision opting out of a final tyre change for Rob Bell’s final push to the flag saw the British team secure it’s podium finish in the LMGTE category.

McKenzies thoughts on the weekend races, “I'm very happy to get a podium on my first time out at Redbull ring. The team worked well the whole weekend and both my team mates were on top form. It was a very hot double stint in the 458 but I managed to bring the car in for a driver swap in 3rd position were we stayed for the rest of the race. Having 2 back to back podiums is always nice but as a team we will be pushing extra hard to work towards getting our first race win at Paul Ricard in a handful of weeks. We are still in with a very good shout of the title with the points being closer than before and will be digging deep for the last 2 rounds.”

Round 4, and the penultimate race of the European Le Mans Series, will take place at Paul Ricard on the 13th and 14th September.
