2014 NHRA: Lucas Oil Pro Arana Sr Ready To Go Faster In Sonoma

- At an age when many men are thinking about slowing down, Lucas Oil Buell rider Hector Arana Sr. wants to go faster.

After the slowest event of the season in Denver, Arana heads to the NHRA Sonoma Nationals this weekend at Sonoma Raceway, where elapsed times are quicker and speeds faster.

"I like Sonoma, the temperature is always consistent, cool," Arana said. "The track is decent, good e.t., so I like that. I am anxious to see what we are going to run there."

Arana, 55, is one of the hottest drivers in Pro Stock Motorcycle, reaching the final round in Chicago and Norwalk, Ohio, and the semifinals in Denver. A red-light in Denver kept him from a third consecutive final, but the veteran rider is ready to bounce back.

"I can't dwell on it or think about it because if I do then I will keep losing," Arana said. "I'm just going to go and stay focused for the next one and keep looking for the win."

Arana, wife Grace, son Adam, and crewmembers Dan Gonzalez and Louie Lubliner are driving the team's motorhome and hauler from Denver, planning to arrive Wednesday to begin preparations for this weekend's race.

A stop or two are planned along the way to relax, but Arana is ready to get to work.

"We don't have much time to relax this next week because we have to be there by Wednesday," Arana said. "And it's going to take a day and a half to get there, so there is not much relaxation time.

"You get there Wednesday and you have a day to set up, and then we have to go over the whole bike and fix what happened in Denver. We have to get all the maintenance done for Sonoma, so there is a lot of work ahead of us."

Pro Stock Motorcycle qualifying sessions are scheduled for 4:15 and 6:15 p.m., Friday, and 12:55 and 3:15 p.m., Saturday. Eliminations begin at noon, Sunday. ESPN2 will carry all qualifying and elimination action.
