Hilmer Motorsport Score Points Again At The GP3 Home Race In Hockenheim

Also at the home race in Hockenheim the GP3 team of Hilmer Motorsport showed a strong performance and finished in the points again. Once more it was the young Italian Riccardo Agostini who delivered a small success to the team of Team Principal Franz Hilmer. Agostini started from tenth place, showed spectacular overtakings and crossed the finishing line in tenth position on Saturday. On Sunday, Agostini didn’t get off to a good start and lost some positions. However, he was able to move up to eighth place and snatched the last point.

The 17-year-old Sebastian Balthasar also showed a promising performance at his second GP3 race weekend and qualified 15th for the first race. Due to a technical problem just before the start his car had to be pushed back to the pit lane. Balthasar could start from the pit lane, set constant and quick lap times and finished the race in 24th position. In the beginning of the race on Sunday he could overtake many cars but Balthasar was turned around by a competitor and the young German dropped back. Afterwards, Balthasar was the quickest driver in the field and called attention by setting the fastest laps of the race. At the end he finished in 21st position.

Nelson Mason had a good pace at the beginning of the weekend and set quick lap times in qualifying. The race stewards, however, cancelled his fastest time because of exceeding track limits so Mason had to start from 21st place. On Saturday, the Canadian climbed up to 16th position and finished the sprint race on Sunday also in 16th.

Franz Hilmer, Team Principal:
“Riccardo Agostini showed once again that he is very quick and is able to score the first podium for Hilmer Motorsport in GP3. Unluckily we didn’t achieve this in Hockenheim but I am sure that it will happen next weekend in Budapest. After all we were able to score some points again. Sebastian made a major step forward and he has got a great potential. I really hope that he can maintain his upward trend and I am convinced that he can finish in the Top 10. We will do everything to collect a prize cup in Budapest so that we can start into the summer break with a good feeling.”

Sebastian Balthasar, Driver #17:
“I enjoyed my home race in Hockenheim a lot. It was a great experience and I can’t wait to get more of it. I got more and more used to the car which we could see already. I would like to thank Franz Hilmer for his trust in me and in my talent. The team from Niederwinkling works on a very professional level at every second and I can’t wait for the next races with the team.”

Nelson Mason, Driver #18:
“Hockenheim was a tough weekend for us personally, but it was really special being in Germany, the team’s home Grand Prix, and right after the country won the World Cup. We had some bad luck, but we persevered. Although we qualified quite well, our fastest time was taken away, so we had to start back in 21st. This made the first race difficult, but we had extremely good pace as qualifying had shown, so we moved up even though it was a hard track to overtake. We made some big steps with the car, and the whole team worked nonstop even though the days were scorching hot! I cannot thank Hilmer Motorsport enough for the experience they have provided me, and I truly look to give the team their first podium in GP3 in Hungary.”

Riccardo Agostini, Driver #19:
“Again we were able to show our strong potential during the weekend. Unfortunately, we made a small mistake in qualifying so we had to start from 14th place into the first race which was not a good starting point for the rest of the weekend. But I had a good race and was able to score more points for the team by finishing in ninth and eighth position respectively. I hope and I am pretty sure that we can fight back in Budapest and fight for Top 5 results like we did in Silverstone and Hockenheim.”
