Codie Rohrbaugh Hot Off Late Model Wins Prepares For Pro Cup Return

It’s been a busy few weeks for X-1R Pro Cup Series Rookie of the Year leader Codie Rohrbaugh, but he’s not complaining.

The results during those busy weeks can only be described as personal triumphs.

In addition to a lead lap finish in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, Rohrbaugh followed it up with his first-career victory in the Super Car Stock Car Series at Jennerstown (Pa.) Speedway last Saturday night.

Now with momentum, often known as the key ingredient to success in Motorsports, Rohrbaugh and his Grant County Mulch Racing team return to X-1R Pro Cup Series competition this weekend for the Summertime Showdown 200 at Orange County (N.C.) Speedway thirsty for more.

“I can’t begin to explain what Jennerstown did for our small team,” explained Rohrbaugh. “It was night of great racing and an even battle to the finish and we came home with the checkered flag. I’m getting better as a driver and the hard work from my team in every decision is definitely paying off.”

While the X-1R Pro Cup Series shined at Tri-County (N.C.) Motor Speedway a few weeks ago, Rohrbaugh was busy enhancing his experience in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East division, where in his first trip to the famed New Hampshire Motor Speedway, the 20-year old driver came home with a respectable 23rd-place lead lap effort.

“We had big shoes to fill with our top-15 performance from Five Flags about a month prior,” Rohrbaugh added. “But, we went to New Hampshire with reasonable and optimistic goals and in our eyes we nailed it. Sure, we didn’t come home with a top-20 run, but we stayed on the lead lap and the car is in one piece. That’s important as we’re ironing out our plans for the remainder of that season soon.

“But now, it’s time to focus back on the X-1R Pro Cup Series.”

Despite missing the Precision Printed Products 250 presented by Caldwell Community College & 92.1 The Big Dawg at Tri-County, the Petersburg, West Virginia native still controls the top-spot in the AFR rookie standings, 43 points ahead of his next challenger, Tyler Lester.

“It wasn’t our intent to skip Tri-County, it’s just the way the cards fell,” Rohrbaugh sounded. “Thankfully, we didn’t lose much ground in the rookie standings, but we took a dive in the overall championship standings. In the big picture of things, we’re okay with that. Right now, we’re not focused on championship points, we’re glued to doing everything in our power to putting our No. 05 Grant County Mulch Chevrolet SS inside the top-five on a consistent basis.”

Rohrbaugh will make his 11th career X-1R Pro Cup Series start this weekend at Orange County and while his young presence in the series has been filled with one top-five and seven top-10 finishes, Rohrbaugh is still in search of that breakout performance. He feels that with any luck, it could come as soon as Saturday night.

“I’ve never been to Orange County, so we’ll have to use practice to our advantage for sure. Once we can get our No. 05 Grant County Mulch Chevrolet SS dialed in, we can steer our focus towards other things. But, once that green flag falls for the race, it’s on. We need to have a good night and keep the momentum going and let the rest of our 2014 season plans fall into place.”

Further details on the remainder of the team’s 2014 schedule, including starts in the X-1R Pro Cup Series and NASCAR K&N Pro Series East are forthcoming.

The Summertime Showdown 200 is set for Saturday night, July 26 with a scheduled green flag shortly after 6:30 p.m.
