2014 Hungary GP: Formula One F1 Starting Line-up Grid & Race Preview

By Mike Sulka

The Formula One F1 series will race the 2014 Hungarian Grand Prix at the Hungaroring circuit in Budapest, Hungary for the 29th time. The race distance is 70 laps around a 2.722 mile / 4.381 track. The front straight is the shortest of the season at just 700 meters, while the rest of the circuit twists and turns.

In the current field of drivers, four have won the Hungarian Grand Prix including: Lewis Hamilton, Jenson Button, Fernando Alonso, and Kimi Raikkonen.

Nico Rosberg easily took Pole in his Mercedes after Lewis Hamilton's car blew up in flames due to a fuel leak. Rosberg has never won here. In fact, his best finish is a fourth place finish back in 2009 with Williams. He has finished 9th or worse here six times in eight Grand Prix.

Hungary is not Rosberg's track.

Lewis Hamilton on the other hand has won four Poles in his nine qualifying attempts here. Hamilton has also won four times in seven attempts. While Hungary is Hamilton's track, this isn't going to be an easy win for the Briton. He'll be starting 21st after the qualifying car failure, and the conventional wisdom is that Hungary is barely better than Monaco when looking for passing opportunities.

Another interesting stat, McLaren have won six of the last nine Grand Prix in Hungary.

But that won't happen this year.

That being said, maybe the statistics won't matter this year. Three times the Hungarian Grand Prix been won from Pole in the last nine years - all three times it was Hamilton. The other six Grand Prix have been won from a lower starting position, including Jenson Button in a Honda back in 2006.

The other front row qualifier is Sebastian Vettel (Red Bull). Vettel also started on the front row last year, but has never won here. Even in his four world championship drives.

With all that in mind, it is still an easy decision for our pick... Nico Rosberg will win.

Should Rosberg fail to win, its likely that the rain really has started to fall, and Lewis Hamilton might just sneak through for victory.

Enjoy the 2014 Hungarian Grand Prix!
