2014 Hungary GP: Formula One F1 Race Results - Ricciardo, Red Bull Win!

By Mike Sulka

In mixed conditions, Red Bull driver Daniel Ricciardo and his No. 3 has won a thrilling Formula One F1 2014 Hungarian Grand Prix GP at the Hungaroring in Budapest, Hungary. For Ricciardo, it is his second win of the 2014 Formula One F1 season, and second of his career. It was also his fifth podium of the 2014 season, and fifth of his Formula One F1 career.

Finishing second was Fernando Alonso and his No. 14 Ferrari slid home on well worn tyres. For Alonso, it was his second podium of the year, and 97th podium of his career. A great strategy move by Ferrari. Alonso is third on the all-time podium list.

Starting 21st, and finishing third was Lewis Hamilton and his No. 44 Mercedes who claimed his 63rd podium of his career which breaks a tie with David Coulthard for eighth on the all-time podium list. Hamilton's day started with an off track spin on lap one, but help from two Safety car periods helped him catch those in front of him. Hamilton made a number of stunning passes along the way.

Finishing fourth, Nico Rosberg and his No. 6 Mercedes started on Pole, and led the early laps, but once again fate interceded and Rosberg would drop back under the two Safety Car jumbles of the grid. Rosberg has never finished on the podium at Hungary in nine tries.

Marcus Ericsson (Caterham) brought out the first Safety Car of the day on lap nine after a solid hit into the barriers. The Safety Car stayed out after another crash under yellow by Lotus driver Romain Grosjean. Both drivers were able to exit their cockpits under their own power, and walk away.

A second Safety Car session arrived on lap 23 following Sergio Perez (Force India) hitting pit wall hard. The accident led to the first double DNF for Force India this season.

Interestingly, Sebastian Vettel and his No. 1 Red Bull nearly had the same accident a few laps later, but miraculously kept the car off the wall while spinning 360 degrees. A great piece of driving!

Next up for the Formula One F1 series will be the Belgium Grand Prix (Spa Francorchamps) in four weeks time, after the annual summer break.
