Podium Finish for Yelloly in Hungary

Nick Yelloly took a podium finish in race one in the 5th round of the GP3 Series at the Hungaroring in Hungary.

Yelloly raced hard to take a well earned second position with just a 2.606 seconds gap behind winner Richie Stanaway. Yelloly started third on the grid and the Status GP driver maintained his position for the opening sector of the race whilst Stanaway lead from the beginning with Robert Visoiu in second.

With the two leading drivers battling first place, Yellow was not too far behind in third. The 23-year-old saw an opportunity when Visoiu’s desperate attempt to take first threw him onto the grass as he ran wide on turn 7. While Stanaway gave the Status team a win, Yelloly rounded off a great team effort following up to take second place with Visoiu making a recovery in third.

Yelloly spoke about his qualifying and race one, "In qualifying we were quickest in every set which was very promising for the weekend races. In race one, I was starting 3rd on the grid which gave me a good start. Visoiu made a mistake, which meant I was able to sneak by into second place. The whole day was great for morale."

Continuing the weekend, Sunday’s race will have a reverse grid for the top eight cars putting Yelloly 7th on the grid for race 2.

Yelloly said about his hopes for the next race in Hungary, “I want to score as many points as possible. My first laps are normally quite good so I’m aiming to get as many positions on lap one as I can and see how the tyre degradation is. Hopefully we can make a nice step for tomorrow and have some better pace.”
