A Satisfying Debut For Javier Ibran In The BRCC

The Spanish driver made his debut in the Belgian Racing Car Championship at the wheel of the Ginette G55 entered by Buggy Experience Racing Team last weekend, and teaming up with Holland´s Mathijs Bakker. They both were fourth and fifth in GTL class and in certain circumstances Buggy Experience Racing Team duo could have won both races.

Javier Ibrán and his Dutch teammate, Mathijs Bakker, made their debut at the Spa-Francorchamps event held by the Belgian Racing Car Championship, the series with various endurance formats where the Ginetta G55 fielded by Buggy Experience Racing Team is able to develop its full potential in its class: GTL.

In spite of the team was stepping into unknown territory, Buggy Experience Racing Team was a front-runner in the free practice session. Ibrán and Bakker proved their speed in qualifying when they were able to top their class with a lap time of 2:39.836 and beating by massive margin the rest of the GTL field. In Race One, taking place on Friday afternoon, Ibrán and Bakker had their maiden win in the championship at their fingertips. Unfortunately a misinterpretation of the rules regarding the mandatory pit stop time meant to finish 5th among GTL teams. On Saturday, in Race Two, they were favorites once again but a double safety car period and subsequent cancellation following a red flag ruined team´s pit strategy but finally bringing home a fourth place.

“Spa-Francorchamps is an amazing racing track, as expected. I felt good at the end of week and both wins were an approachable target but unfortunately some issues prevented us from achieving them. In the first race we made a mistake with our handicap time during the pit stop and, on Saturday, our strategy was really good but a double safety car period and the red-flagged race later spoiled our chances”, Ibrán explains and underlining that “anyway this organization does a great job. We will come back for winning!”.
