Courtney Force beat John Force in the Funny Car final to highlight the NHRA Sonoma Nationals at Sonoma Raceway.

It was a history-making moment. Courtney Force’s victory made her the winningest female racer in Funny Car history. She won for the fifth time and broke a tie with her sister, Ashley Force Hood, to go to the top spot. Every victory by a female driver in an NHRA four-wheeled professional class has been accomplished on Goodyear tires.

The other Goodyear-equipped winners at Sonoma included Khalid alBalooshi (in Top Fuel), Jason Line (Pro Stock) and Alan Ellis (Competition Eliminator). Top Fuel, Funny Car and Pro Stock are all part of the NHRA’s Mello Yello Drag Racing Series for professional teams. Competition Eliminator is part of the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series for sportsman teams.

Courtney Force won for the second time this season but the final round victory was anything but easy. She led early, and then lost the lead to her father before her car rallied and won by .1628 of a second.

In the race to the NHRA’s Countdown to the Championship, Robert Hight and John Force are already qualified in the Funny Car category. Ron Capps is the first non-qualified driver with 957 points. Courtney Force follows Capps with 941.

alBalooshi beat teammate Shawn Langdon in the Top Fuel final. It was the second win of the season for alBalooshi and the fifth of his career.

Doug Kalitta, Antron Brown and Shawn Langdon have all made the Countdown. Tony Schumacher, with 911 points, and Steve Torrence, with 867, are next in the standings.

Line faced V. Gaines in the final of Pro Stock. Line led the entire race, but it was close. The margin of victory was only .0254 of a second. Line’s win was his second this year.

Erica Enders-Stevens, who was not at Sonoma, was the first to make the Countdown in Pro Stock. She has been followed by Allen Johnson, Jason Line, Jeg Coughlin and Dave Connolly. Shane Gray has 931 points and is next in the standings. Vincent Nobile, with 926, follows Gray.

Ellis is the 2013 Competition Eliminator national champion. He collected his sixth victory in a national event at Sonoma.

Goodyear employs about 69,000 people at manufacturing plants and facilities in 22 nations. Based in Akron, Ohio, Goodyear is among the largest tiremakers in the world and is the worldwide leader in race tire innovation.
