RSR Racing Finishes 1-2 At The Indianapolis Brickyard Grand Prix

RSR Racing drivers Jack Hawksworth and Bruno Junqueira battled nose to tail for the final thirty minutes of the inaugural Tudor United Sportscar Championship Brickyard Grand Prix with the 23 year old Briton just edging Indycar and Sportscar veteran Junqueira by 1.422 seconds after two hours and forty five minutes of action.

Duncan Ende began the day in the #09 LinospressoUSA ORECA FLM09 prototype in P1 after a pre-race penalty placed pole sitter CORE Autosport at the rear of the field. Ende battled traffic and the PC field for over one hour before handing over the car to his Brazilian teammate. Junqueira drove a trouble free race for the next hour and forty five minutes, setting fast lap after fast lap as he pulled away from the #54 CORE Autosport entry piloted by Colin Braun.

Starting fifth in the #08 AUTOMAXUSA.COM entry, Canadian Chris Cumming steadily progressed through the field, before handing the car off to Hawksworth, who was standing in for a suspended Alex Tagliani. Hawksworth left the pit lane on a mission for the front, taking the next 30 laps to run down and pass Colin Braun for 2nd in class. His teammate would prove a tougher task however, as Junqueira held off the sportscar rookie for another 40 laps. On lap 104 of the 108 lap race Hawksworth took advantage of a moment in traffic where a trapped Junqueira was unable to defend, squeezing inside for the pass that ultimately led to victory lane.

After the race Team Principal Paul Gentilozzi reflected on a shining moment in an otherwise tough season.

"I would have been happy with (position) 8 and 9 and no carnage, so everything we are doing here is a gift. Chris and Duncan have hung in there all year and tried really hard, we have had fast cars and bad luck with a lot of crash damage. To get to this level is more than we could ask for and we are very grateful."

Gentilozzi continued, "Now that we have broken the ice it will only make us hungrier to really push for victories through the rest of the Tudor United Sportscar Championship season."

Hawksworth was ecstatic after his first sportscar racing experience: "The last 45 minutes were some of the most fun I've had in a race car, to be honest. I had a great battle with Bruno, fighting through the traffic. I enjoyed every minute of it. It's a great circuit and I enjoyed it. To finally get a win here, it feels awesome."

From one historic venue to another, RSR will continue their charge through the IMSA calendar at the 4.048 mile circuit at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin on August 10th.
