Broken Throttle Slows Truex In Indianapolis

Ryan Truex and the No. 83 Burger King / Dr Pepper Toyota Camry team finished 41st at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Sunday afternoon. After racing inside the top 30, Truex suffered a broken throttle with just 20 laps left in the event and was relegated to a 41st-place finish.

Competing in his first Brickyard 400, Truex rolled off 32nd for the iconic Sprint Cup Series event. Despite lacking rear grip from the start of the event, Truex maintained his track position and climbed inside the top 30 within 40 laps. The Burger King / Dr Pepper team made chassis and air pressure adjustments to their Toyota Camry during the opening round of pit stops, giving Truex the grip he needed.

The BK Racing team gambled on pit strategy near the lap 100 mark looking for ways to regain valuable track position for Truex. However, the effort proved to be irrelevant as Truex's Toyota Camry stopped in turn two on lap 140. The Burger King / Dr Pepper Toyota Camry was towed behind the wall, where Truex's team quickly diagnosed and repaired a broken throttle. Ten laps later, Truex returned to the track, but the driver had lost valuable track position and was credited with a 41st-place finish when the checkered flag waved.

"Our Burger King / Dr Pepper Toyota Camry team had a good car today and it looked like we were going to have a solid finish," commented Truex. "After the performance we had all day, it's very unfortunate that we had the throttle failure so late in the race. My BK Racing team diagnosed the problem quickly and replaced the part in time to get us back on track for the finish. We'll evaluate everything when we get back to the shop to determine what caused the failure and to prevent it from recurring. Beyond that, we'll just continue to focus on getting better. Over the next few weeks we'll revisit some tracks that we raced at earlier this year, so we'll take what we learned earlier this season and focus on improving."

The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series will return to Pocono (Pa.) Raceway next weekend for their second race of the season at "The Tricky Triangle." On Friday, August 1, FOX Sports 1 will cover practice (11 a.m. EDT) and qualifying (3:30 p.m. EDT). ESPN2 will take over coverage on Saturday, August 2 with two additional practice sessions at 9 a.m. EDT and 11:30 a.m. EDT. The GoBowling.com 400 will be broadcast on ESPN, MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio at 1 p.m. EDT on Sunday, August 3.
