2014 Mid-Ohio: KVSH Racing & KV AFS Racing IndyCar Race Preview

KVSH Racing driver Sebastien Bourdais is coming off a superb doubleheader in Toronto that saw him dominate Race 1 by first winning the pole (his first in an open-wheel car since 2007) and then leading 58 of the 65 laps to capture the race (his first win since 2007) by three seconds. He got as high as second in Race 2 before having to pit for rain tires and was then punted by another driver, which dropped him to the back of the field. However the victory still fresh in his mind, Bourdais surged through the field to pick up nine spots in six laps to eventually finish ninth. He now sits 10th in the championship standings with 358 points.

"KVSH Racing is coming off a weekend in Toronto where we showed that we are capable of achieving the results we expect for ourselves. If we continue to work hard I think we can build on that momentum. I like the Mid-Ohio circuit. I only raced there once in Champ cars so most of my experience there has come the last three years in Indy cars. We had a productive test at Mid-Ohio in the Mistic E-Cigs car last week. We worked through a lot of things and learned a lot, so hopefully we will have a good baseline setup right off the transporter."

• The 2014 Honda Indy 200 will be Bourdais' 128th Verizon IndyCar Series start, 15th with KVSH Racing and fifth at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.
• Bourdais is contesting his ninth Verizon IndyCar Series season (Champ Car, 5: IndyCar, 4).
• In 127 career Verizon IndyCar Series starts, Bourdais has won 32 races placing him eighth on the all-time list and earned 32 pole positions, seventh all-time.
• In four previous starts at Mid-Ohio, Bourdais has a best finish of fourth (2012) and a best start of third (2003).
• Bourdais is the only driver to win four consecutive championships, taking the Champ Car World Series title in 2004 - 2007.
• Bourdais contested 27 Formula One races (2008-2009)
• Bourdais, 35, is a native of Le Mans, France but resides in St. Petersburg, Florida.

KV AFS Racing's Sebastian Saavedra had a disappointing doubleheader two weeks ago at Toronto. He was running 10th in Race 1, but a radio problem caused him to miss his pit call when it was yellow which resulted in him pitting under green and losing valuable spots. Race 2 he got as high as eighth in the wet and slippery conditions but then found the tire wall and was forced to retire with 16 laps remaining. Saavedra is 21st in the standings with 229 points.

"I'm looking forward to a positive weekend at Mid Ohio. It's a beautiful track and more of a European style, so that always makes it fun. We had a very productive test there last week and came away learning a lot about the car, so we hope to put all that into practice for this weekend's race."

• Saavedra is in his fifth Verizon IndyCar Series season.
• The 2014 Honda Indy 200 will be Saavedra's 53rd Verizon IndyCar Series start, 34th on a road/street course, 15th with KV AFS and fifth at Mid-Ohio Sportscar Course (ran twice in Indy Lights).
• In 52 career Verizon IndyCar Series starts, Saavedra has earned three top-10 finishes with a best finish of eighth last year.
• In 33 previous road/street course starts, Saavedra has a career best finish of eighth at Baltimore in 2013. His best qualifying was at the inaugural Grand Prix of Indianapolis this year where he earned his first IndyCar career pole.
• Saavedra has an oval career best finish of 13th at Milwaukee last year.
• Saavedra, 24, is a native of Bogota, Columbia. He currently resides in Indianapolis, IN.
