Mark Blundell Confirms His Return To The Goodwood Revival Event This September

Former F1 driver, IndyCar and Le Mans 24-hour winner, Mark Blundell, will be taking part in the 2014 St Mary’s Trophy race. Always a popular event, the Trophy race sees past and present drivers battle their way around the famous track with vintage racecars from the 1950’s era.

Mark will be racing a 1958 Ford Zodiac, which is owned by his good friend and partner for the race, Kerry Michael; they also raced together in last year’s event. The Zodiac last competed in the Trophy Race back in 2012, driven by Red Bull Racing Team Principle Christian Horner and then owner, James Turner, and finished 6th overall.

The race itself is split in two parts, with each car featuring a professional, current or ex racing car driver, and they will be teamed up with the owner of the car. The pro drivers will be taking the first race and then owners racing in the second. The overall winners will be calculated as an aggregate of the two races.

Other drivers taking part this year include the likes of, Italian Fabrizio Giovanard, who claimed the 2007 and 2008 British Touring Car Championship, he will be showing off an Alfa Giulietta in the race. Jason Plato, who holds the BTCC record for race victories, will also be there in an ex-Alan Mann Racing 1959 Ford Prefect 107E; Jason will be partnered with TV Chef James Martin, who is a regular at the Goodwood event.

Mark said about the up and coming event, “I’m looking forward to the Goodwood Revival event as it’s always a really fun weekend with people buying into the spirit of the retro/revival feel. It’s nice to see all the classic cars back out on track, and the owners that look after them with so much passion. I am also very happy to be racing with my team mate Kerry Michael again who did a great job last year.”

The event is set for the weekend of the 12th September. Competitors and spectators alike dress in period fashions for the weekend events, with sights and entertainment of the pre-1966 era. The event also holds other races including saloon races, sports cars races and single-seater races, which all feature and celebrate the historic motorcars.
