Midday Quotes, Rally Finland, Day Three

Mikko Hirvonen (6th) said:

“It’s been tricky. Yesterday I had a fantastic feeling all the time, but this morning I know on every stage that it’s not going to be enough. You start to hesitate a little in all of the cuts – ‘am I going to go flat here or might there be a rock?’ You lose so much time like that and the seconds just slip away.

“We need to reset for this afternoon. For sure it is going to be really rutted and there will be all sorts of surprises waiting for us; but we need to go flat-out and not worry about that if we are to take the time back.”

Elfyn Evans (9th) said:

“I’m trying not to take too many risks; just trying to relax and enjoy the stages. It’s all good experience for the future and I’m learning a lot.

“We lost out to Juho [Hänninen] on that last one [SS18], but to be honest I’m not too concerned about that. He has a lot of experience around here and even to be close to his stage times like we were this morning is a big positive.

“There are a lot of areas where we could still go faster but what we are concentrating on for the moment is trying to drive better, and not necessarily faster. It’s all about learning what the car does and how it reacts to certain situations.

“We just need to continue at our own pace and ensure that we gain the experience that is so vital around here.”
