Justin Wilson to Start Eighth in Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio

Justin Wilson will start the Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course from the fourth row after taking to a slippery racetrack on Saturday during Verizon IndyCar Series qualifying. A heavy rain enveloped the circuit earlier in the day which left the 2.258-mile, 13-turn natural-terrain road course wet for the session.

Despite the tricky conditions, Wilson managed to post a fast time of 1:33.3948-seconds for eighth on the grid.

Having been among the top-five in both Practice 2 and Practice 3, Wilson was hopeful of a run that would solidify a spot among the Firestone Fast Six. But the track had been dry with pleasant weather conditions in each practice session of the weekend for Wilson and his Dale Coyne Racing team. Saturday’s qualifying would add a new challenge as the No. 19 Boy Scouts of America hit the track in wet conditions for the first time.

Wilson took part in the first qualifying group which was halted by multiple red flag periods as several cars spun off track throughout the 10-minute session. With time for just one official timed lap, Wilson placed second and advanced to the top-12 and the second round of qualifying with a 01:37.8238-second flyer.

When Wilson returned to the track for Round 2 of qualifying, red flags once again took away precious time. Wilson managed to put down the eighth fastest lap which was just .0821-seconds shy of advancing to the top-six to vie for the pole position.

"It was slick - very slippery out there!” said Wilson of the qualifying effort. “The car feels good. Unfortunately we weren't quite quick enough to make it into the top-six but when it's wet like that, it's a bit of a lottery. We're starting eighth so we have a chance there and we'll see what we can do in the race. I'm not sure what to expect in the race tomorrow. It's going to be tough. We want to get to the front. We've been quick all weekend so we want to be at the front but at the same time it's hard to overtake here, it's almost impossible. We'll just have to play it smart and see what happens."

Wilson will have another 30-minute practice session Sunday morning ahead of the Honda Indy 200 event at Mid-Ohio which is scheduled to start at 3:50 PM ET. The race will be televised LIVE on NBC Sports Network beginning at 3:00 PM ET.
